First to Ten

Tara Madgwick - Monday November 29

As we move into December and say goodbye to the spring carnivals in Sydney and Melbourne, it’s worth taking a look at the leading sires by stakes-winners with current leader Snitzel setting a brisk pace on 10 stakes-winners.

The Arrowfield Stud based champion sire is on a mission this year and looks as though he will easily surpass his overall tally of 13 Australian stakes-winners last season.

Snitzel is on track for a super successful season.

His 10 stakes-winners are highlighted by three Group I winners – Wild Ruler, In the Congo and Yearning – the latter two both three year-olds coming from a crop that may well emerge as his best ever.

The powerhouse engine driving the Snitzel success this season is coming from this crop with Snitzel also the leading 3YO Sire by winners, earnings and stakes-winners.

These current three year-olds were conceived in 2017 when Snitzel’s fee jumped from $110,000 to $176,000 and he covered 200 plus mares that year so his progeny are not only top quality but also plentiful.
