Star Turn's Me Me Lagarde a Star on The Rise

Mark Smith - Saturday December 18

Making her first start in 26 weeks, the promising Star Turn filly Me Me Lagarde came with a barnstorming finish from the tail of the field to open her stakes account in Saturday’s $200,000 Listed Gold Edition Stakes at Eagle Farm.

Ridden by Robbie Fradd for Toby and Trent Edmonds, Me Me Lagarde’s chances looked forlorn for all but the final 150m. And it was not close.

The Gerry Harvey-trained homebred was going two to the oppositions one to defeat the honest Far Too Easy (All Too Hard) by one and three-quarter lengths with Release The Beans (Spill The Beans) a further short head back in third.

“She is a good filly. I think you would go a long way to see (another) run like that today,” Toby Edmonds said.

“This track is very firm and has been on speed all day. She came from well back and put them away.

“I think blinkers have been a big addition. She is very laid back filly. I said to Gerry and Luke that we are getting towards the pointy end, getting to Magic Millions time, so it’s time to put them on.

“I needed to run her at Doomben a couple of weeks ago, and she had a foot abscess, which we had to get right.

“I am nervous racing here all the time. It’s a beautiful big track and everything gets its chance, but I wish it was the same surface everywhere.

Me Me Lagarde will target the $2million Magic Millions 3yo Guineas and Edmonds said it was his job to keep her in one piece.

Passed in at Magic Millions shy of her $75,000 reserve, Me Me Lagarde advances her record to three wins from four starts with earnings of $180,200.

The daughter of Star Turn is a half-sister to Group III placed Hoylonny and is the best of six winners from Group III placed Flying Spur mare Roedean.

Roedean was famously disqualified from winning the Group I MRC Blue Diamond Stakes back in 2003 due to a positive drug test.

She has a yearling colt by Astern and foaled a colt by All Too Hard on October 4.

Me Me Lagarde credit’s Vinery Stud’s Star Turn with his second stakes-winner.

The handsome son of Star Witness stands for a fee of $16,500.
