ROSEHILL – Greg Polson

SANCTIONED – After three placings this preparation it’s time to get on board Sanctioned for the Spring Champion Stakes at Randwick on October 7. To the naked eye Sanctioned look to be simply outstayed by Ace High in the Gloaming on Saturday but there was enough in the sectionals to suggest Sanctioned can turn the tables. The key sectional was the 800m to the 600m with Ace High getting away with a 12.07 seconds 200m split as All Day felt the pinch and accordingly recorded 35.30 seconds from the 800m to 200m, 23.80 seconds from the 800m to the 200m and 23.23 seconds from the 600m to the 200m. Sanctioned recorded 34.92 seconds from the 800m to 200m, 23.48 seconds from the 800m to 200m and 22.94 seconds from the 600m to 200m. Sanctioned had to work harder in this section of the race and the effort told over the latter stages. Sanctioned is set to peak fourth-up at Randwick over 2000m and is ready to win. Career statistics (5:1-2-2).

CAULFIELD – Cameron Happ

ALOISIA – Not sure who she’ll be trained by for her next start with Ciaron Maher suspended but whoever picks up this filly has a live Oaks chance moving forward. She came over from NZ and at just her second local start she was unlucky not to win the Group I J.J. Atkins over a mile during the Brisbane Winter carnival. She was run off her feet as they sprinted on Saturday at Caulfield and just as she was ready to charge home she got held up from the 200 metres only getting clear over the last 50 metres, she clearly should have run second. The stable had her set on exactly the same path as Jameka so if this path is kept she’ll be incredibly hard to beat in the Vase at Moonee Valley and even more so the Oaks at Flemington. Career statistics (5:1-2-0).

IPSWICH – Graeme Carey

BROOKLYN STORM – Resumed after a long break and a change of stables in a Benchmark 85 over 1200m. He began well, was a little keen early but quickly settled for Jag Guthmann-Chester and got a nice run to the turn where he took an opening near the rail to hit the front and looked the winner until being nailed in the last stride by track specialist Dream Finnish. He will strip much fitter for the outing and is a very consistent fellow who has finished top four in 14 of his 17 starts. He has performed well on Brisbane city tracks in the past and now with Michael Costa on the Gold Coast is well worth following as his preparation progresses.  Career statistics (17:4-5-3).

MORPHETTVILLE – Heath Pope

BOGGOMS – Lightly-raced, and above average Phillip Stokes trained five-year-old that put the writing on the wall with a scintillating second -up performance when charged hard late against a soft on-pace tempo which was 6-1/4 lengths slower than benchmark. He wasn’t entitled to get as close as he did after getting well out of his ground early. This came off the back of a moderate first-up effort when he clearly didn’t appreciate the heavy conditions. Given he strikes another good track next time, we expect him to be horribly hard to beat in anything up to 1250m. Career statistics (12:5-4-1).

BELMONT – Aaron Mills

ZUCCHEROS – Now an eight-year-old but showed there was still a win or two in the legs with a strong first-up showing. Zuccheros was resuming after 22 weeks off and after settling back in the field made good steady ground in the run to the line to finish third, reeling off the second-best final 600-metre sectional of the day in the process. Visually it appeared Zuccheros had plenty of scope for improvement and if able to sneak into a Benchmark 78+ with less weight in the coming weeks will be hard to hold out. Worth following for at least his next two starts. Career record (42:8-3-9).
