Barnstorming Last to First Win for Invincible Filly

Tara Madgwick - Saturday February 12

The $150,000 ATC Pierro Plate (1100m) at Randwick on Saturday did not carry Black Type, but it did feature an interesting mix of first starters and up and comers with I Am Invincible filly Mumbai Jewel charging over the top to score a thrilling win.

Race favourite Metallicity was unbeaten in three trials going into this assignment, but the Zoustar  colt came up short finishing a close fourth beaten only half a length.

Drawn out wide, the Annabel Neasham trained Mumbai Jewel was dragged back to last from the gates and let loose with a powerful finish under Sam Clipperton to overwhelm her rivals and win by a long head.

“I’ve always had a really good opinion of her as she’s a beautiful physical and has always wanted to please and shown plenty at home,” said Annabel Neasham, who lamented on the bad luck of Mumbai Jewel in regards to barriers as she has drawn wide in each of her three starts to date..

“I can’t wait unit she can draw a gate and then we can put her in the race and hopefully get some Black type with her going forwards.”

The Group II ATC Riesling Stakes in three weeks time was mentioned as a likely target and if she measures up the Golden Slipper will be the next assignment.

Mumbai Jewel was a $575,000 Magic Millions purchase from the Coolmore draft.

A $575,000 Magic Millions purchase from the Coolmore draft for Annabel Neasham Racing/Brian McGuire, Mumbai Jewel runs for a partnership involving Coolmore, Kia Ora Stud and Robert McClure of Morning Rise Stud, who bred the filly.

A half-sister to stakes-placed Splendoronthegrass, Mumbai Jewel is the fourth winner from four to race from Mumbai Rock, a winning Fastnet Rock daughter of imported US Group I winner Mani Bhavan (USA).

Coolmore will offer the yearling half-sister by Zoustar to Mumbai Jewel at Inglis Easter as Lot 308.
