Juvenile Trial Watch- Rosehill

Tara Madgwick - Monday February 21

There was plenty of quality at the Rosehill trials this morning with Group I winner Alligator Blood taking out a heat along with big banger 3YO colts Zarastro (I Am Invincible) and Remarque (Snitzel), but on the two year-old front it was the sister to Group I winner Loving Gaby that was the star of the show.

Trained by Ciaron Maher and David Eustace , Greece was having her second trial with James McDonald on board and did everything right, jumping smartly and then taking a sit behind stakes-placed filly Bohemian Daisy.

Greece was allowed to slide along over her last couple of furlongs and the daughter of I Am Invincible moved clear to win the 1030m heat by more than three lengths with ears pricked, so is now two for two at the trials.

Greece was a $1.2million Magic Millions purchase from the Kia Ora Stud draft for Ciaron Maher Bloodstock/Nxt Level Syndication and Kia Ora Stud have retained a share in the ownership of Greece. They will offer her yearling half-brother by Justify (USA) at Inglis Easter as Lot 267.

I Am Invincible had another juvenile heat winner in the Matthew Dunn trained colt Lubrication, who found the line strongly in his heat to win by a head showing good improvement from his first trial two weeks ago.

A $400,000 Inglis Easter purchase from the Kitchwin Hills draft, Lubrication is the first foal of stakes-placed Fastnet Rock mare Workdrinks, who comes from the family of dual Group I winner Virage de Fortune tracing back to legendary mare Emancipation, so he lacks for nothing on the pedigree front.

Kitchwin Hills will offer the second foal of Workdrinks, a filly by Zoustar, as Lot 28 at Inglis Easter.

Other two year-old winners were Surf on Turf (2c Not a Single Doubt) and Nominator (2g Zoustar) with the$1.9million 2021 Magic Millions sale-topper Basquiat appearing for the first time in the trial won by the former.

Trained by Chris Waller, the Snitzel colt was a little slow to muster speed before settling midfield on the fence and was chased along over the final furlong to make ground and finish third beaten a length.

He will learn plenty from the experience and it will be interesting to see his progress next time.
