It's Kah Again as Ancient Girl Opens Stakes Account

Mark Smith - Monday March 14

Jamie Kah won four of the five features at Morphettville as Ancient Girl made it a 5-timer for the champion jockey in the Listed Morphettville Guineas (1600m).

Ridden along to take up the running, the Clinton McDonald-trained daughter of Turn Me Loose kept up a relentless gallop to defeat the Foxwedge gelding Harleymoven by two and a half lengths with a further one and a quarter length back to the More Than Ready (USA) colt Set The Sails in third.

Coming off a third in the Group III The Vanity at Flemington, won by Barb Raider, Ancient Girl advanced her record to three wins and a third from six starts with earnings of $125,950.

“It’s great for (part) owners Todd Hartley and Doug Pante, who own share in Turn Me Loose,”  McDonald said.

“So it is important to them as the stallion is doing an amazing job. He had a Group 1 winner yesterday (Lickety Split) and a Listed winner today.

“Jamie rode this horse in trackwork on Tuesday, and she worked sensationally.

“This is Jamie’s day. Five winners and an Adelaide Cup. What can you say? I don’t think it has ever been done before.

“We were looking at the Kewney on Saturday, but I said to the boys she would run well for third or fourth while we can come here and win a Listed race.

“We will have alook where we go. We have the option of the Oaks, but I think she will be better as a 4yo.

Ancient Girl a $150,000 Inglis Premier Yearling

“We won’t go to the well too many times and let her tell us.”

McDonald Racing paid $150,000 for the daughter of Turn Me Loose from the Windsor Park Stud consignment at the 2020 Inglis Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale.

She is the best of four winners from as many to race out of the Elusive City mare Herculaneum, a half-sister to Group 1 Brisbane Cup winner Art Success (Pentire).

It has been a sensational weekend for Windsor Park Stud’s Group 1 VRC Emirates Stakes and Group 1 MRC Futurity Stakes winner Turn Me Loose.

The son of Iffraaj sired the Group 1 Sistema Stakes winner Lickety Split at Ellerslie on Sunday.
