There were three Group 1 races contested in Australia since last week and two are horses we’ve seen before, but the third is a first timer for a champion sire.
The Group I ATC Vinery Stakes (1850m) was run at Newcastle on Monday from the delayed Rosehill meeting and produced a deserved winner in Fangirl, read about her here.
Fangirl is the eighth Group I winner for Sebring and is the 17th as a broodmare sire for champion sire Encosta de Lago, who has delivered the goods for the Ingham family previously giving them another homebred G1 winner as a broodmare sire with Japonisme, who was by Chosir.
The Sebring x Encosta de Lago nick has produced 55 winners from 86 starters, so 64% winners to runners with Fangirl the first Group I winner among six stakes-winners which is close to 7% SW to runner.
There is loads of quality in the female line with her first three dams all Black Type winners, Little Surfer Girl, a Listed winner, Special Harmony a triple Group I winner that won the equivalent of the Vinery Stakes in 2004, and Marooned Lady a G3 winner in WA.

Duais is one of four G1 winners for Snitzel’s Cox Plate winning son Shamus Award and is one of nine G1 winners for Johannesburg as a broodmare sire, but is his first in Australia. Duais claims legendary matriarch Fanfreluche as her fourth dam and is going to be a super valuable broodmare when her racing days are done.
Shamus Award runs at nearly 7% SW to runner and has really found his forte as a sire of quality stayers with his four G1 winners all successful at distances of 2000m or further with Duais alongside Incentivise, Mr Quickie and Media Award.
The Group I MVRC William Reid Stakes (1200m) on Friday night marked a return to form for September Run, who won the Group I VRC Coolmore Stud Stakes as a 3YO, read about her here.
She combines the blood of champion sires Exceed and Excel and Street Cry and is the best of three stakes-winners bred on this cross, which has had 29 winners from 42 starters and is 7% SW to runner. The two sires also combine in the pedigree of another Group I winning sprinter in Elite Street, who is by Street Boss from a daughter of Exceed and Excel.
Her second dam is South AFrican Champion 2YO Filly Warning Zone and thet female family is packed with Aouth African Black Type.
Street Cry mares have left 104 stakes-winners worldwide and 18 of them are G1 winners.
