Stakes-Winning Return for Extreme Warrior

Tara Madgwick - Saturday April 23

Set to retire to Rosemont Stud this spring, Extreme Warrior looks like he is poised to go out on a high after resuming from a spell to win the Listed MRC Bel Esprit Stakes (1100m) at Caulfield on Saturday.

A son of Newgate Farm’s explosive young sire Extreme Choice who stands for $275,000 this spring, Extreme Warrior showed his class in the spring when winning the Group III MRC Blue Sapphire Stakes and returned to the scene of that triumph for a thrilling victory.

Ridden perfectly by Jamie Kah, he came with a well-timed run to score a three-quarter length win taking his overall record to three wins and two seconds from seven starts with earnings just shy of $300,000.

Trained by Mick Price and Mick Kent Jr, Extreme Warrior is headed towards the Group I ATC Goodwood Handicap next month.

"He's a brilliant colt. He got very worked up behind the gates and almost half melted so we thought he might be a big fresh and a bit underdone but he was too good in the end,” said Mick Kent Jr.

"He's a beautiful colt and everyone that comes to see him loves him. He's got a massive hip and he's what Extreme Choice can throw.

"There's not many of these bulls around so he's obviously been highly sought after and secured by Rosemont and their investors.

"It's really good to get back with a win and he's got one of those freakish actions with a really long stride and he's a very quick horse.

"The Goodwood is four weeks away so we'll put a run in between. We'll talk to the team and work that one out."

Jamie Kah was well pleased with Extreme Warrior and believes the best is to come.

"My first sit on him the other day in a trial he really impressed me. He's a very talented colt and I think he's got more improvement to come,” she said.

A $160,000 Magic Millions purchase from the Glenlogan Park draft for Mick Price Racing/Dermot Farrington, Extreme Warrior is a half-brother to stakes-winner Thrillster and stakes-placed Free Thrills being the third winner from good producer Heart of Thrills.

A three-quarter sister-in-blood to Group III winner Gotta Have Heart and stakes-winner Crossyourheart, Heart of Thrills is also the dam of a two year-old I Am Invincible filly that sold for $1.2million at Inglis Easter last year when bought by Rosemont Stud, who also share in the ownership of Extreme Warrior.

A fee for Extreme Warrior will be announced after his current preparation.
