Exciting 3YO Glint of Hope (Deep Impact) scored a maiden Stakes victory in today’s G1 Australasian Oaks at Morphettville.
Prior to today, the Trent Busuttin and Natalie Young-trained filly had raced eight times for seven top-three finishes, showing abundant promise, but produced a career best today at just her ninth start.
Glint Of Hope was foaled in Japan for breeder Dato Yap of Raffles Dancers and sent to Mike Fleming’s Bhima Thoroughbreds as a weanling.
Fleming prepped the filly for the 2020 Easter Yearling Sale, where she sold to Asrun’s Yusuke Tsukahara for $250,000.
“That was obviously the Covid-impacted Easter and once Inglis announced the sale would go virtual, I remember we had a mad rush of agents especially who were allowed to move around a bit head to the farm to inspect the draft and this filly was always popular,’’ Fleming recalled.
“She always promised to deliver a lot and it’s great to see her doing so now with the Busuttin/Young camp.
“She’s been a really good filly, her only unplaced run has been in the VRC Oaks so it’s great to see her win a G1 so early in her career.’’
Glint Of Hope (pictured) becomes the 71st G1-winning Inglis graduate since 2018 and is the second consecutive Inglis graduate to win the Australasian Oaks following the success of Media Award last year.
For Tsukahara, who worked closely with Inglis Japanese representative Satomi Oka in advance of the 2020 Inglis Easter Yearling Sale, today’s result was memorable.
“She was so special from the moment she was born and we were excited to hear the owner wanted to sell her in the Easter Sale,’’ he said.
“We didn’t think we had enough budget to buy her so it was a big surprise when we found out our online bid actually purchased her.
“We buy and look after mares for our overseas clients. Looking after foals born in Southern Hemisphere time in Japan isn’t easy but we are lucky enough to have resources to do so.
Winning co-trainer Natalie Young added: “It’s amazing, really. It was such a great ride by Daniel [Moor], he didn’t go around a horse, he rode her an absolute treat, just got on the back of Jamie Kah on (fellow Inglis Easter graduate and third placegetter) My Whisper and that was really the only instruction.
“She’s obviously by Deep Impact so she carries great residual value now with a G1 Oaks win. We’ve got a G1 with a Japanese bred, it’s unbelievable.’’
Earlier on today’s Morphettville program, untapped 3YO Illation (So You Think) announced himself a star of the future with a dominant 4L romp in the Listed Nitschke Stakes.
The Mick Price and Michael Kent Jr-trained colt has now had two starts for two wins – by a combined margin of 8.3L – and his connections are already starting to dream.
“He’s a really good colt, a colt with a future,’’ co-trainer Mick Price said.
“I would put a circle around the Cox Plate if you asked me to dream.’’
Bred by a syndicate that includes Lindsay Maxsted, Peter Allen, Greg Hayes, Simon Tuxen and Greg Ingham, in whose colours he races, Illation is a graduate of the 2020 Easter Yearling Sale, where he was offered by Coolmore.
And 8YO marvel Morvada (Mossman) took his career earnings past the $800,000 barrier with victory in the Listed City Of Adelaide Handicap.
Morvada has been a great money spinner for connections – his trainer Peter Jolly purchased him for $200,000 at the Easter Yearling Sale, where Vinery Stud offered him.
Today’s win was the ninth of Morvada’s career, and fourth at black type level.
At Sandown, in-form 5YO Regardsmaree (So You Think) made it two wins in the space of a week with victory in the Listed Anniversary Vase.
Today’s win comes a week after Regardsmaree proved too strong in the Vobis Gold Sprint at Caulfield.
The Nick Ryan-trained Regardsmaree is a $70,000 buy for Mark Schiavello at the Premier Yearling Sale, where he was offered by his breeders Hillside Thoroughbreds.
He has now won eight races and $660,000 in prizemoney.
And in Perth, prolific winner Amasenus (Time For War) continued doing what she does best – winning races – with victory in the Listed Sheila Gwynne Classic at Ascot.
It’s a remarkable 10th career win for Amasenus from 20 career starts, which has also netted four minor placings.
The Simon Miller-trained Amasenus has now won 9 of her past 12 starts and earned $450,000 in earnings – she’s a $14,000 Australian Weanling Sale buy from Taghadoe Stud.
Today’s successful results come on the eve of a big week of sales at Riverside.
The action begins tomorrow with the HTBA May Yearling Sale and is followed by the Australian Weanling Sale (Wednesday and Thursday), The Chairman’s Sale (Friday) and the Australian Broodmare Sale (Sunday week).
