Silent Sovereign Powres to Victory in Queen Of The South

Mark Smith - Saturday May 7

After outlaying $220,000 for Silent Surround at the Inglis Chairman's Sale on Friday, Michael Freedman would have gained a good deal of satisfaction when Silent Surround's daughter Silent Sovereign scored a dominant win in Saturday's $200,000 Group II Queen Of The South Stakes at Morphettville.

Ridden by John Allen for Tony and Calvin McEvoy, the long-striding daughter of Dalakhani (IRE) overpowered Foxy Frida (Foxwedge) by a half-neck with Comica (Magnus) three-quarter of a length in third.

The winner of the Group III SAJC Schweppervescence Stakes at Morphettville over two years ago, Silent Sovereign advances her record to five wins, five seconds, and three thirds from 23 starts with earnings of $515,700.

With her time winding down with the imminent closure of the NcEvoys south Australian stable, Sarah Rutten said it was a great way to sign off after six and a half years.

"Tony's instructions were just blinkers first time and she could be a little keen. Just let her jump out and ride her where she's comfortable, and he did just that," Rutten said.

"He didn't find any traffic and led her all around the field, and she was strong late.

"She's loved this track. Oakbank just didn't suit her. This track is much more suited to her.

"She likes the big rolling tracks where she can just get rolling from further back. She doesn't have a lot of sprint, so this really suited her today.

"It’s great to see this lovely mare get another win.”

Rutten said she would take out her trainer’s license after a Queensland holiday.

“It’s been an amazing six and a half years with Tony. “ she said.

“I have some unbelievable memories. I won’t leave Tony alone. I will still stay in touch, and I said that I will always be there to help.”

Silent Surround

Bred and raced by the Moyle family, Silent Sovereign is a half-sister to the Listed SAJC Morphettville Guineas winner Silent Command (Commands).

She is out of the Group III SAJC Sires' Produce Stakes winner Silent Surround who placed in the Group II Wakeful Stakes and Group II Edward Manifold Stakes.

A daughter of the Red Ransom (USA) stallion Face Value, Silent Surround was a $36,000 purchase at the 2008 Magic Millions Adelaide Yearling Sale.

Silent Surround has an unraced 2yo So You Think filly named Silent Emmy and a yearling colt by Highland Reel, who Ricky Maund Racing purchased for $28,000 at the Adelaide Magic Millions.

Silent Surround sold at the Charmans with a 3rd of September cover by The Autumn Sun.
