A busy set of trials on the grass at Rosehill on Tuesday morning featured seven heats won by 2YO’s with an army of juveniles stepping out from the Chris Waller stable including several that caught our attention by snitzel, I Am Invincible and Churchill (IRE).
Already a gelding, Snitzel 2YO Alberich won the first juvenile heat at his first public outing, finishing too well for I Am invincible colt Himalaism, with both youngsters trained by Chris Waller.
Himalaism was a good third to subsequent Golden Slipper winner Fireburn on debut last December and was then fourth at his only run last preparation on a slow track at Canterbury behind Troach. Has obviously come back stronger and if the tracks ever dry out we might see a decent horse.
The heat winner Alberich has a quality North American female pedigree. He is from Mizzen Mast mare Seeking (USA) and was bred by Gooree Stud fetching just $80,000 when they sold him at Inglis Classic to Frank Stockdale, who re-offered him at the Inglis Ready2Race last year where he made a handsome profit selling for $170,000.
He breezed in 10.54 for that sale and has obviously not lost any of that talent since then.
Interesting runner back in the field and given a very quiet trial by Team Hawkes was Golden Age, a blueblood I Am Invincible colt from Group I winner First Seal bought for $500,000 at Inglis Easter and raced by Alan Bell.
He’s a big heavy colt that has been given time and this trial was purely educational , but am interested to see him again!
The Waller stable featured again with $1million I Am Invincible colt Eponymous, who won by the biggest margin of all the juvenile heats scoring by four and a half lengths.
It was the fifth trial for Eponymous and easily his best, so he will be well educated when he finally gets to the races.
Bought from the Coolmore draft by Andrew Williams Bloodstock, Eponymous is a half-brother to three winners and comes from a Darley family as his dam Caveat is a sister to Group I winner Camarilla, the dam of four time Group I winner Guelph with champion sprinter Bivouac also on the page.
Coolmore shuttler Churchill (IRE) has had two stylish winners in Australia both trained by Chris Waller and promising filly Super Chilled can follow suit.
She travelled deep and hit the line strongly to win her heat by half a length at her second trial this preparation and looks ready for race day.
Super Chilled was a bargain $70,000 purchase from Karaka Book 1 for Mulcaster Bloodstock / Chris Waller Racing from the Curraghmore draft.
Last time in she had just the one run getting back and finishing seventh to her stablemate Churchill colt Conqueror over 1100m and has a pedigree that would suggest longer races will suit her better. She has a 3 x 3 double cross of Sadler’s Wells and is from winning Fastnet Rock mare Ocean Fleet, who traces back to a fine European Black Type family.
Other heat winners were: Sorgente (Headwater), The Lion’s Gate (Vancouver), Shezanalister (Star Turn) and Our Last Stardust (Rubick).
