Hellbent Again! 12th Winner and First in NZ

Tara Madgwick - Thursday July 21

Yarraman Park’s Hellbent extended his hot winning streak into New Zealand on Thursday with a debut victory at Hastings for promising filly Tantrums.

Trained by Simon and Katrina Alexander, Tantrums made light of the heavy 10 conditions to win the 800m scamper by a length.

Tantrums was bred in Australia by Dr Richard McClenahan of Mullaglass Stud and was snapped up for just $15,000 by Stanton Thoroughbreds from the 2021 Inglis Digital March (early) Sale as a yearling.

She is the first foal of Layo Layo, a winning Encosta de Lago daughter of stakes-winner Tantra from the family of $3.7million earning Champion 2YO Filly Away Game.

Dr Richard McClenahan also bred and sold her sire Hellbent as a yearling, so he will no doubt take great satisfaction from breeding a smart winner by the Group I winning  son of I Am Invincible.

The first runner and first winner for her sire in New Zealand, Tantrums is the 12th first crop winner for Hellbent and is his eighth this month!

Hellbent stands at a fee of $22,000 this spring.
