Tara Madgwick - Thursday February 26

John Sargent is a master trainer when it comes to three year-old fillies with some staying talent and he has a blueblood Pierro filly that is definitely going the right way.

Listen Sweetheart broke her maiden over 1400m when resuming from a spell at Canberra at the start of the month and then stepped up to 1600m for a Class 1 race at Wyong on Thursday.

Sent off favourite with Dylan Gibbons to ride, Listen Sweetheart travelled behind the leaders and swept through along the inside to score a stylish length and a half win.

A $240,000 Inglis Easter purchase for Dean Hawthorne Bloodstock from the Riversdale Farm draft, Listen Sweetheart runs in the colours of Jonathan Munz’s Pinecliff Racing and has now won two of six starts.

She was a savvy purchase as her older half-sister by So You Think is talented stayer You Wahng, who came out and won  the Group I BRC Queensland Oaks last year.

Listen Sweetheart is also a half-sister to another stakes-winner Street Gossip and is the fourth winner from four foals to race from royally bred Casino Prince mare Wahng Wah, who traces back to the Celebria/ Twyla branch of the Dancing Show (USA) family.

This branch of the iconic family has produced G1 winners such as Gathering and In Italian and more recently Tom Kitten and Desert Lightning.

Riversdale will offer a So You Think yearling colt from Wahng Wah at Inglis Easter this year as Lot 178.
