The top bets from Clinton Payne for Monday at Warwick Farm

Clinton Payne - Monday October 2

There'd be plenty of headaches doing the rounds after a massive grand final weekend so don't bother doing the form, I've done it for you and I'm pretty keen heading into the Warwick Farm meeting.

GRESHAM (Warwick Farm Race 2 No 3)
The form around this Chris Waller-trained three-year-old points to him being hard to beat in a maiden handicap. He resumed in the middle of July and stormed home from a long way back to go down by a head behind Assimilate then he was beaten the same margin by the same horse at Randwick a fortnight later - reads well for a maiden. He was given an eight-length let-up since his last run when chasing home Runaway over 1550m at Canterbury. He looked good winning a recent trial, the 1300m trip should suit him ideally. Hard to beat.

PRINCESS POSH (Warwick Farm Race 6 No 4)
Handy mare that's racing well and luck deserted her last time out. She contested the Group III Tibbie Stakes and was strung up in traffic form much of the straight, never securing a clear path meaning she went to the line untested so the beaten margin of 2-1/4 lengths reads pretty good. She's yet to win over this trip in three starts but I feel it suits her best and as a four-year-old mare, she should be at the peak of her powers now. Drawn to get the gun run, she has the right formlines and she should be right at her top fourth-up. Good value.
BET: WIN
ODDS $4.80
@ Ladbrokes ($6 Odds Boost)

HALLELUJAH BOY (Warwick Farm Race 7 No 2)
Former Japanese galloper that had no luck in his Australian debut which is best forgotten. A couple of things that should be noted from that run which give me confidence here are. Kris Lees took him to Melbourne to kick off the campaign which points to the horse pleasing him leading up to that race. It was also a Saturday grade race that included the likes of Mr Sneaky and Theanswermyfriend and Hallelujah Boy started at $6 after $26 had been bet during the week. He's been given four weeks to get over that run and if he can produce anything like his best here he'll be hard to beat in a pretty thin race here.
BET: WIN
ODDS $5.50
