First Aussie Group I Winner for No Nay Never

No Nay Never (USA) shuttled to Coolmore Australia for four seasons and now remains in Ireland at a fee of €125,000, but the brilliant son of Scat Daddy was making news here on Wednesday when his talented filly Madame Pommery won the Group I MRC Thousand Guineas (1600m).

A close second to her glamour stablemate Zougotcha in the Group II ATC Tea Rose Stakes, Madame Pommery was backing up from finishing sixth in the Group I ATC Flight Stakes.

Sent to Melbourne fit and ready to fire by Chris Waller, Madame Pommery enjoyed a perfect run in transit under James McDonald and made light of the heavy ground to surge through along the inside and win by more than a length over Revolutionary Miss.

 

 

“It was a fantastic ride, we were a little bit nervous as to whether she would see out a tough mile when the rain came,” said assistant trainer Charlie Duckworth.

“She had a gem of a ride, did no work early and only had to chime in at the 400m and she let down impressively.

“It’s incredible for the stable, we’ve won the Flight Stakes and the Thousand Guineas… it’s awesome to be a part of it.”

Madame Pommery is a G1 star!

James McDonald was full of praise for the filly, “Chris has had a lot of faith in this filly and hence why he brought her down and he said she’d be very hard to beat and was quietly confident.”

A $150,000 Magic Millions purchase from the Coolmore draft for Waller Racing/ Mulcaster Bloodstock, Madame Pommery races for a big all women’s syndicate that includes Stephanie Waller.

Madame Pommery has the overall record of two wins and two placings from seven starts with prizemoney topping $770,000.

Madame Pommery was a $150,000 Magic Millions purchase

Bred, foaled and raised at Coolmore, Madame Pommery is the best of  three winners from Cancel, a winning Darley bred Exceed and Excel mare that is a full sister to Group I MRC Blue Diamond winner Earthquake.

She was bought by Coolmore for $400,000 at the 2018 Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale from the Newgate Consignment having been bought from Darley two years before at the same sale by James Harron Bloodstock for $300,000.

Coolmore sold a Pierro filly from Cancel at Inglis Easter this year for $200,000 to Marsh Racing and she has foaled this spring producing a colt by Wootton Bassett (GB) after missing the previous year.

Madame Pommery is the 44th stakes-winner for No Nay Never and is his sixth Group I winner and second bred from a daughter of Exceed and Excel joining two time Group I winning colt Ten Sovereigns, who now stands alongside his sire at Coolmore in Ireland.
