Tara Madgwick - Wednesday October 12

We saw three new Australian three year-old stakes-winners on Wednesday, one of them a Group I winner and the other two may well be Group I winners before the end of spring and two of them are by mares by the same sire!

The Group I MRC Thousand Guineas (1600m) went to Madame Pommery, the 44th stakes-winner worldwide for No Nay Never and his sixth Group I winner, read about her here.

Madame Pommery is the fourth Group I winner in 2022 for No Nay Never, joining his top class 4YO mare Alcohol Free and a pair of two year old colts Blackbeard and Little Big Bear. The son of Scat Daddy is on track to be Champion European Sire of 2YO’s for 2022.

She is the 71st  stakes-winner and 12th Group I winner for Exceed and Excel as a broodmare sire and is his second in the last few days with Saturday’s G1 Toorak Handicap winner Tuvalu also out of a daughter of the champion Darley sire.

The Group III MRC Blue Sapphire (1200m) was won by undefeated colt Grand Impact (NZ), who made it three wins in as many starts with the G1 Coolmore Stud Stakes on his agenda, read about him here.
