Blueblood Golden Age Breaks Maiden

Mark Smith - Wednesday October 19

A bit of quality on show in the opener at Warwick Farm on Wednesday, with the Michael, Wayne and John Hawkes-trained blueblood Golden Age breaking his maiden over 1400m.

Ridden by Zac Lloyd, the 3yo son of I Am Invincible and First Seal led at every call to defeat the Written Tycoon colt Oriental Tycoon, a brother to Group 1 winner Booker and Listed winner Banquo, by a neck.

The Stratum Star colt Kandos Cosmos was a length and a quarter back in third.

It was the second start for Golden Age, who went off favourite after a solid fourth of 16 at Rosehill on September 28.

“He’s still learning; he still does not know what it’s all about,” Michael Hawkes said.

“The further he goes, the better he will be.

“His first run was good. He just lost a little momentum halfway up the straight. He excelled at 1400m today.”

Golden Age a $500,000 Inglis Easter yearling

Carrying the colours of Alan Bell, Golden Age was a $500,000 purchase for Hawkes Racing from the Sledmere Stud draft at the 2021 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale.

Bred by China Horse Club Racing, Golden Age is a half-brother to the promising Naval Seal (Snitzel).

First Seal has decisions over Winx in the Group 1 ATC Flight Stakes and Group II Tea Rose Stakes in a career that earned $1,259,060  for connections.

The daughter of Fastnet Rock has a yearling colt by Zoustar and foaled a Snitzel filly on September 22.
