Santos broke the ice in New Zealand on Saturday when promising filly Ulanova scored a half length debut win at Te Rapa over 1000m.

The Stephen Marsh trained filly was a short priced favourite and showed plenty of talent to lead all the way and kick on to win well.

Ulanova was the highest priced first crop yearling by Santos.

Ulanova is bred for speed being a three-quarter sister to stakes-winner Steal My Kisses and half-sister to stakes-placed Butter Blonde and Butch Kissidy. She is the sixth winner from six foals to race from Group III placed The Fairy’s Kiss, a half-sister to Group II winner Dame Giselle, who is by Santos’ sire I Am Invincible.

The Fairy’s Kiss was on-sold by Aquis at the 2020 Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale when carrying Ulanova and was snapped up by Paul Willetts Bloodstock for $100,000 and sent to New Zealand.
