Karaka graduate Dad And Dave (NZ) (Time Test) added Friday’s A$150,000 Listed Tasmanian Derby (2200m) at Hobart to his victory in last month’s A$125,000 Listed Launceston Guineas (2000m), becoming only the seventh horse to complete that Tasmanian feature double.

Dad And Dave was bred by Windsor Park Stud and offered by Ohukia Lodge at the 2024 Ready to Run Sale, where Ciaron Maher Bloodstock bought him for $55,000. He has now had five starts for three wins and A$190,935 in stakes.
The gelding has now strung together three wins in succession, and trainer Ciaron Maher’s stable representative Nikki White said he is continuing to raise the bar.
“He's sort of been a bit of a dark horse,” she said. “We didn't screw him down as much at home, but we just knew we had potential to obviously get out in trip, and it's paid off.”
Ridden in Friday’s Derby by expat Irish jockey Eoin Walsh, Dad And Dave settled midfield before moving out three wide and beginning to warm into his work before the home turn.
Dad And Dave lengthened stride down the straight and outstayed his opposition to score comfortably by three-quarters of a length.
“I was pretty confident going into the first bend,” Walsh said. “I thought, ‘Jeez, we're going to go a good one as long as they don't steady them up.’ But, no, it was a lovely genuine tempo and my lad was the best stayer in the race today.”
Dad And Dave may now be targeted towards Derby races on the Australian mainland.
“We possibly will,” White said. “We’ll see how he comes through this and make a plan after that.”
The Tasmanian Derby produced a Ready to Run Sale quinella, with runner-up Colizzi (NZ) (Ace High) bought for $85,000. He has placed in two of his four starts to date and has earned A$36,640.
