Mark Smith - Sunday November 13

The product of two champions Geraldina backed up from her maiden Group success in the Group II Sankei Sho All Comers at Nakayama in September to capture Sunday’s Group 1 Queen Elizabeth II Cup at Hanshin.

Ridden by Cristian Demuro for trainer Takashi Saito, the 4yo daughter of Maurice (JPN) came clear to defeat the dead heaters, Damian Lane’s mount Win Marilyn (Scree Hero) and the 3yo Orfevre filly Licac,  by one and three-quarter lengths.

Geraldina is the best of two winners from three to race out of the champion Deep Impact mare Gentidonna whose lengthy list of achievements includes a pair of  Horse of the Year in titles in Japan in 2012 & 2014 and a Triple Crown Winner in 2012.

Gentildonna has a yearling sister to Geraldina.

Arrowfield Stud shuttler Maurice (JPN) takes his Group 1 tally to five. The son of Screen Hero covered a career-high 156 mares last spring.
