Exciting future for headstrong Choisir colt

Breednet - Friday October 6
He's bad mannered and headstrong but Choisir colt Choisborder could be set for an "exciting future" after winning at Moonee Valley on Friday.

Choisborder as a yearlingTrained by Darren Weir, he had been beaten into second place at two previous starts but was always the firm favourite for the Moonee Valley race.

After parading beautifully however it wasn't a pretty sight watching Brad Rawiller wrestling his way around to the start and he proved headstrong throughout the race, before pulling out enough in a determined finish to prevail narrowly from Seized (Wanted x Princess Pulse) and debutante Holbien (Pierro x Caribbean Sunset).

"He gave me a handful getting to the barrier and there were a couple of stages in the run where he wanted to take charge," said Rawiller after the race.

"He's still quite raw. When he gets his manners ironed out he might have an exciting future."

Choisborder is the fourth foal to race and second winner for Royal Academy mare Borderline, a half-sister to Gr.2 Light Fingers Stakes winner Sharp, out of a half-sister to former champion filly Angst.

He was a $280,000 purchase for John Foote Bloodstock from the Musk Creek Farm draft at the Inglis Premier Yearling Sale.

He is the eighth winner in the last seven days for the evergreen Choisir who stands this season at Coolmore at a fee of $29,700.
