2023 Inglis Premier Now Online

Media Release - Monday December 12

The catalogue for the 2023 Premier Yearling Sale – responsible for the World’s Best Sprinter Nature Strip among a long list of recent luminaries – is NOW AVAILABLE ONLINE.

An increased catalogue of 816 yearlings – 615 in the Premier Session and 201 in the Showcase Session - has been finalised for the three-day auction, to be held at Oaklands Junction in Melbourne on March 5-7.

Toronado (IRE) has 32 entries and is the most represented sire at Inglis Premier.

The 2023 renewal of the sale will see one of the most diverse catalogues ever offered at a Southern Hemisphere yearling sale, with 133 individual stallions represented.

They include the likes of proven leading sires such as I Am Invincible, Snitzel, Extreme Choice, Written Tycoon, Zoustar, Capitalist, Deep Field, So You Think, Fastnet Rock, Exceed And Excel, Shamus Award, Toronado, Savabeel, Dundeel, Street Boss, Per Incanto, Nicconi, Russian Revolution etc as well as international stallions including Lope de Vega, Night of Thunder, Camelot and Constitution.

Darley's Royal Ascot sprint king Blue Point (IRE) is the most represented first season sire with 25 entries.

There is also an exciting crop of 24 first season sires represented such as Pierata, Exceedance, Yes Yes Yes, Too Darn Hot, Blue Point, Zousain, Brutal, Castelvecchio, Cosmic Force, Cliff’s Edge, Dubious, Microphone, Super Seth, Tassort, Calyx, Strasbourg etc.

The yearlings will be presented by 67 of Australia and New Zealand’s best vendors headed by all of Victoria’s leading farms and breeders, supplemented by a strong representation of interstate drafts.

Of the catalogue, 440 lots are Super VOBIS nominated while there are also yearlings that qualify for BOBS, QTIS, Westspeed and Racing Rewards SA.

The Premier Yearling Sale – which has produced 22 individual G1 winners since 2018 - has continued to forge its reputation as the sale to secure a millionaire, both on and off the track.

Since 2019, graduates of this sale have won 25 of Australia’s Open $1m+ races, with winners including the likes of champion sprinter Nature Strip, outstanding young horses like Ole Kirk and Sneaky Five, recent carnival stars like Bella Nipotina, Tuvalu, Lost And Running and Masked Crusader and fan favourites like Gytrash, Kenedna and Hey Doc.

An $80,000 purchase from the 2019 Inglis Premier Yearling Sale, Bella Nipotina has won over $3.2million and won the Group I MVRC Manikato Stakes this spring.

Traditionally there is incredible value to be found at the Premier Sale – of the 22 G1-winning graduates since 2018, 12 could have been purchased for $100,000 or less including Santa Ana Lane, Bella Nipotina, Beat The Clock, Seabrook, Spright and Savatoxl etc.

“This sale is a celebration of the best Victorian farms and breeders, supplemented by drafts from leading interstate Australian breeders as well as a select range of well-credentialled yearlings from New Zealand,’’ Inglis’ Victorian Bloodstock Manager James Price said.

“You could have bought Nature Strip at Premier for $120,000 and he’s won $20.5m and counting, you could have bought Gytrash or Lost And Running at Premier for $40,000 and they’ve won almost $4m and $3m respectively, you could have bought Bella Nipotina at Premier for $80,000 and she’s so far won $3.2m in prizemoney and is worth a small fortune as a broodmare prospect. The opportunities are endless.

“We are so lucky here in Victoria to have many of Australasia’s best breeders, stallions and yearling preparers which collectively have seen this sale produce so many racetrack stars and valuable black type fillies and mares and I’ve no doubt the 2023 catalogue is again littered with future stars.’’

Hard copies of the Premier catalogue will be available within a fortnight.
