Four heats for juveniles run at Randwick on Tuesday morning and it was all about Snitzel with his quality son Empire of Japan taking another step towards his return, while the other three heats were won by the progeny of his young sire sons and included the top lot from Magic Millions Gold Coast March.
The Peter and Paul Snowden trained colt Empire of Japan won the Group III ATC Breeders Plate at the start of spring and was having his second trial this preparation and forged clear to win the 1050m gallop by more than a length under James McDonald.
Corumbene Stud will offer his half-brother by Exceed and Excel at Magic Millions 2023 as Lot 955 so they will be watching his progress closely.
Empire of Japan is a brother-in-blood to former brilliant three year-old colt Menari, who is the sire of the next horse we liked from the trials in the Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott trained filly Kitty Chat.
This was the first outing for the Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott trained Kitty Chat and it was a stylish effort as she covered ground throughout and was super strong to the line powering clear to win and she broke 33 seconds for her last 600m.
A $125,000 Inglis Classic purchase from the Noogee Park draft for her trainers, Kitty Chat has the same prominent blaze as her sire Menari and also Empire of Japan. She is from La Chatte, a winning daughter of juvenile stakes-winner Chinchilla.
Waterhouse and Bott won the next heat with an expensive Russian Revolution colt in Marching, who led all the way to win from his stablemate Just Glamourous, who threatened late and was probably more impressive than the winner.
Both horses were having their second trial and it will be interesting to follow them to race day.
Marching was the second highest priced colt for Russian Revolution sold in 2022 and Just Glamourous, a gorgeous looking filly from Group I winner Global Glamour, was the most expensive yearling by Justify (USA) sold at Magic Millions.
Russian Revolution is also the sire of The Instructor, yet another Gai and Adrian trained youngster that showed a decent turn of foot to charge home out wide and win at his first trial. Most juveniles from this stable are sent forward hard from the gates, but this one jumped from a wide draw and was allowed to settle covering ground by Tim Clark before flying to the line when angled into the clear.
He was the top priced yearling at the Magic Millions Gold Coast March Yearling Sale when fetching $230,000 for Lyndhurst Stud Farm when knocked down to First Light Racing/Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott Racing. The Instructor is a three-quarter brother to handy metro winner Pentito from Denman mare Right of Way, who comes from a US Black Type family.
