Record January sale to start 2023 for Inglis Digital

Media Release - Wednesday January 11

A pair of well-bred race fillies and mares shone brightest in the most successful Inglis Digital January online sale on record, both realising north of $200,000.

Quality Group placed New Zealand mare Silverina (Contributer) topped the January (Early) action, realising $235,000.

Offered on behalf of clients by Denys Chan – who purchased the now 4YO for $80,000 as a yearling – Silverina sold to Cardigan Bloodstock.

Dark Powers is another mare to join the star-studded Yulong broodmare band.

And a frenzied late bidding duel saw the popular 3YO filly Dark Powers (Snitzel) surge to second-top lot, selling to Yulong Investments for $230,000.

Silverina and Dark Powers become the 113th and 114th lots to realise $200,000 or more on Inglis Digital since its inception, a statistic that comes as no surprise to Chan.

“Inglis Digital is the biggest and best online platform in the Southern Hemisphere and while I have tried others, you just have to use Inglis Digital,’’ Chan said.

“The process is just so smooth, the Inglis Digital team do a great job and it’s a fabulous experience along the way.

“We’re so very happy with this result, not just me but all the owners. I can tell you that any of their (tried horses) that come up later on for sale, they will be put through Inglis Digital for sure.’’

For Yulong’s Sam Fairgray, the decision to go to $230,000 to secure the Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott-trained and offered Dark Powers was so she could be sent to their young stallion Tagaloa.

“She’ll be retired to stud immediately, she’s from a very good family, she sold well as a yearling and we thought she would be an ideal match for Tagaloa, physically she looks like she’ll suit him perfectly,’’ Fairgray said.

“The bidding did take off late but when these fillies and mares are from those good families, the market generally does its job and they never come cheap.’’

Yulong also purchased the third-top lot of the sale - fellow Snitzel filly Sorianello - for $120,000.

She was one of five lots to realise $100,000 or more.

Another stunning result out of today’s sale was the 2.5% share offered in the G3-winning 2YO colt Krakarib, which sold to Jimmy Unwala’s Avesta Bloodstock for $33,000.

The sale values the Ribchester juvenile, who was offered on behalf of Donalds Racing, at $1.32m.

“We’re absolutely thrilled with that result, to have the colt effectively valued at $1.32m means the systems we have in place at Donalds Racing are working and this result is fantastic,’’ Donalds Racing Syndication Manager Alex Vinar said.

“The Inglis Digital platform gets people to the races straight away and you don’t have to spend a lot of money. Krakarib will trial on Friday morning and race on January 26, so it’s instant action for the new owners and they’re in for a lot of fun with this colt.’’

Overall, the Inglis Digital January (Early) Sale grossed $3,099,550, making it the highest grossing January online sale in the platform’s history.

The next Inglis Digital Online Auction is the January (Late) Sale, which will run from January 20-25.

Entries for that sale are now open and will remain so until midnight on Wednesday 18.
