Smile And Wave Excites at Flemington

Mark Smith - Friday January 20

The three-year-old I Am Invincible filly Smile And Wave backed up her five-length romp at Mornington with another convincing performance over 1000m at Flemington on Friday.

Ridden by Craig Newitt for Anthony and Sam Freedman, the Jonathon Munz homebred was untroubled in defeating Songaa (Shalaa) by two lengths with Don't Hesitate (Snitzel) a neck back in third.

In her only start at two, Smile And Wave needed to pass a vet check at the barriers when disappointing at Cranbourne last June.

It was a different story when she lined up in a 1000m maiden at Mornington on New Year's Day.

The daughter of I Am Invincible went coast to coast to win by five and a quarter lengths.

Craig Newitt has little doubt she is a filly going places.

"She's pretty good, very professional. She jumped straight on the bunny, came back underneath me, relaxed, and gave a good kick," Newitt said.

"She has a bright future."

Smile And Wave is the first foal of the winning Makfi (GB) mare Sansa, a $300,00 purchase for Dean Hawthorne Bloodstock (BAFNZ) at the 2018 National Broodmare Sale.

Sansa is a half-sister to stakes-winner Members Joy (Hussonet), dam of Group II ATC Percy Sykes Stakes winner Pure Elation (I Am Invincible) and a $1,100,000 Zoustar filly at the recent Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.

MG Price Racing & Breeding Pty Ltd / Aramco Racing shelled out $90,000 for Sansa's Written Tycoon colt consigned by Bhima Stud to the 2022 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale.

Sansa has a filly foal by Super Seth and was covered by Dundeel last spring.
