Forbidden Love Crowned SA Thoroughbred Breeders Horse of the Year

Triple Group One Winner Forbidden Love (All Too Hard - Juliet’s Princess) was named SA Thoroughbred Breeders horse of the year last Saturday night at Glenelg’s Grand Hotel.

A proud Juliet O’Brien accepted the award on behalf of her husband Kerry a former Olympian and well-known SA businessman who is currently unwell.

“Breeding thoroughbreds has been Kerry’s lifelong passion and to breed a Champion like Forbidden Love is a fitting reward, we both loved watching her race and now that she’s retired, she’s going to become the best mum as well,” Juliet said.

Part owners Andy & Vicki Kay accepted the owners award on behalf of Forbidden Love’s ownership group.

In his role as head of Olympics at Seven, Kay has produced the vision of many of Australia’s most iconic sporting and racing events.

Kay said, “It was a such an honour to be a part owner of our champion Forbidden Love, bred by an Olympic Champion and Australian record holding athlete that I grew up admiring.”

Juliet’s Princess (More Than Ready USA - Malayan Princess (USA) the dam of Forbidden Love was also named Broodmare of the year.

A star is born - Forbidden Love as a foal.

SA Breeder of the Year (Stakes Winners) was a tie between well-known Australian breeders Harry Perks and the Watson Family of Mill Park Stud who both produced 6 Stakes Winners each.

Prominent SA Veterinary Surgeon Dr Bill Marmion received the coveted Matrice award for his outstanding 45-year service to Veterinary Science and the Racing and Breeding Industry.

Racing Administrator and long-time thoroughbred Breeder Doug Hall received the Gerald Schlink award for a dedicated life time of service in many Industry roles, most notably as Secretary of the Balaklava Racing Club while developing the award-winning Balaklava Cup Day into one of the state’s most nationally recognised race days.

Willow Grove Stud Master and South Australian breeding industry stalwart Ralph Satchell also received a well-deserved 20-year service to SATB award.

The South Australian Breeders consistently keep producing many high calibre race horses, including recent Group 1 winners Forbidden Love, September Run & Warning together with stakes winners Away Game, Mileva, Foxy Frida and Seradess also flying the SA flag last racing season.
