Six heats for juveniles at the Randwick trials on Monday morning and some exciting sprinters in action with heat wins for Eduardo and Shades of Rose, but our interest lies with the two year olds that included two winners by Russian Revolution.
The Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott trained Written Tycoon colt Butch Cassidy made it two trial wins from two appearances when stepping up for a 740m dash to 1045m. He did everything right and travelled forward and wide before surging clear and was eased down to win by three-quarters of a length.
Butch Cassidy was a $750,000 Magic Millions purchase for James Harron Bloodstock Colts Partnership from the Milburn Creek draft and is the first foal of Rose Ahead, a winning half-sister to Group III winner Daytona Grey and stakes-winner Mail It In.
Russian Revolution had the quinella in this heat with the Peter and Paul Snowden trained filly Hampton Queen running down La Demoiselle to win by half a length at her first trial.
A $360,000 Inglis Premier purchase for China Horse Club from the Sledmere Stud draft, she is a half-sister to Group II winner Always Alison and Group II placed Kyria from well bred mare Rhema, who died last year after producing another filly by Russian Revolution.
Rhema is a half-sister to Group I VRC Victoria Derby winner Benicio and grand-daughter of Golden Slipper winner Bint Marscay.
Russian Revolution had his second heat winner when the Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott trained filly Tillusion led all the way to win her first heat by more than a length. Russian Revolution has sired five stakes-winners to date and four of them have been prepared by Gai and Adrian with the fifth by the Snowdens, who trained the sire.
She was a $300,000 Magic Millions purchase for Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott/Kestrel Thoroughbred from the Newgate draft and is the first foal of imported stakes-winner Stallion Heiress (Can), whose second foal, a filly by Brutal sold for $50,000 at Magic Millions this year.
The Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott trained Written Tycoon colt Critique jumped and led and kicked on strongly to beat his stablemate Risshuu, who finished off nicely at his first appearance.
The winner was a $775,000 Magic Millions purchase from the Newgate draft for China Horse Club/Newgate Bloodstock/Trilogy Racing and is from Group III placed Slumber Party, a half-sister to the dam of last week’s impressive debut two year-old winner Extreme Spirit (Extreme Choice).
Runner-up Risshuu is an interesting one being by The Autumn Sun from terrific producer Flidais, who has left G1 winner Sweet Idea, G2 winner Showtime and stakes-winner Rush among her nine winners. He looks to have been well bought by Dynamic Syndications for just $200,000 at Magic Millions and while he does look like he’ll need more time Risshuu might be worth waiting for.
Other winners were: Soldier of Rome (Snitzel) and Mostro (Maurice (Jpn), who beat a late closing Empire of Japan.
