Eighth Group Ones for Anamoe

Mark Smith - Saturday February 25

Nothing seems beyond Anamoe, who earned an eighth Group 1 win with another flawless performance in Saturday's $600,000 Group 1 TAB Chipping Norton Stakes (1600m) at Randwick.

Allowed to dawdle along in the second half of the field, Anamoe was set alight by James McDonald at the 300m and, in the space of 50 metres, had the race in his keeping.

The striking 4yo son of Street Boss (USA) defeated the Sebring mare Fangirl by one and a quarter lengths with the Savabeel entire Mo'unga a head back in third.

Anamoe advances his record to 13 wins, five seconds, and two thirds from 23 starts with earnings of $11,116,025

Winning trainer James Cummings said he was pleased that the pace was solid.

"That’s the opportunity that Anamoe gets to show himself when there’s proper pace in the race,” Cummings said.

“He was just six lengths back, coiled up, ready to launch when some quality horses were up there vying for the lead early.

“He hasn’t always been able to do that since he’s turned four, and in some of his three-year-old races. You can’t put margins on horses necessarily in slowly run races at weight for age, and today he was able to do that, and I daresay he did have a bit of a wow factor there.

“He’s got tactical speed, he’s a genuine weight for age star.

“We don’t like him sitting in the Theatre of the Horse too long, sweating up, that’s not what he enjoys. The moment he gets out on the track he’s a racehorse, he feels good about it, he gets the wind under his tail. Two out of two this campaign is great, and we can keep aiming up with him and press on with confidence.”

“We’ve got three weeks to the Ranvet or the George Ryder. We’ll give ourselves some time, we’ll get through next weekend I’d say and then we’ll continue to make sure that we have a solid plan to stick to when it comes to his assault on Royal Ascot.

“We’ll nominate him for the Queen Anne and Prince Of Wales. We dare not get ahead of ourselves because he’s got some targets here first.”

Anamoe completed a profitable day for Street Boss (USA), who had another stakes-winner in Pericles at Sandown.

A half-brother to Irish stakes-winner Anamba (Shamardal), Anamoe is the best of four winners from seven to race out of the Group I SAJC Australasian Oaks winner Anamato.

A half-sister by champion sire Redoute's Choice to Group I winner Drum, Anamato has a serious black-type pedigree featuring Group I winners Grand Armee, Yourdeel and Dealer Principal.

Anamato started her stud career in the Northern Hemisphere before being repatriated in 2014. She has a yearling filly foal by Blue Point (IRE), missed to Street Boss (USA) in 2021, and revisited son of Street Cry (IRE) last spring.
