Horse Of The Year Lankan Rupee Retired

Mark Smith - Sunday October 15

While owner Teeley Assets and trainer Mick Price welcomed the emergence of one star in the surprise Caulfield Guineas winner Mighty Boss, they farewelled another with the announcement that former Horse Of The Year Lankan Rupee has run his last race.

Lankan Rupee finished an even sixth in the Group II Schillaci Stakes won by Super Cash but connections felt it was the right moment to call time on an amazing career.

"He has been such a good horse for the stable. He has been here since he was a yearling all the staff love him and we love him," Price said.

"Out of respect for the horse if he can't compete at the top level, properly, he doesn't need to compete. He's got a good life ahead of him."

The 8yo gelded son of Redoute's Choice retires with a record of 11 wins, 4 seconds and 5 thirds from 29 starts with earnings of $4,129,510.

His eight stakes wins were highlighted by five at the highest level, the ATC TJ Smith Stakes, MRC Oakleigh Plate, MVRC Manikato Stakes, VRC Newmarket Handicap and VRC Lightning Stakes.
