New 2YO Stakes-Winner for Capitalist

Tara Madgwick - Saturday April 29

The Listed BRC Dalrello Plate (1000m) was a competitive affair at Eagle Farm on Saturday with promising Capitalist filly Appin Girl making it two wins in as many starts when powering to a dominant  victory.

Trained by Steven O’Dea and Matt Hoysted, Appin Girl was an impressive debut winner at the Sunshine Coast on April 2 and handled the class rise to stakes company with ease.

She travelled sweetly back in the field and when angled into the clear let down with a good change of gear to win for Boris Thornton by a length and a half taking her earnings in excess of $100,000.

uo;She’s always been a filly that Matt and I have had a big opinion of,” said Steve O’Dea.

“We had her in last preparation and she just went shinsore after we got her up to the jump out stage, so we brought her back at this time of year hoping she could progress to stakes races over the carnival.

“She’s a half-sister to Sesar and Doubt Defying that we trained as well, so to see her do that at her second start, and there is still plenty of upside to her, is pretty exciting.”

A homebred for her breeder Howard Blight, Appin Girl is a half-sister to Group II winner Sesar and stakes-winner Doubt Defying and is the third stakes-winner among from good producing stakes-winner Sarthemare, a daughter of Street Cry (IRE).

Sarthemare produced a filly by Exceedance last spring, but then missed to both Home Affairs and The Autumn Sun so will be without foal this year.

Capitalist

Appin Girl is the 12th stakes-winner for Capitalist, who stands at Newgate at a fee of $77,000 this spring.
