East Asia is an Ace in National Broodmares deck

The Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale perennially attracts a galaxy of glamours and one star lot guaranteed to shine at next week’s 3-dayer is the stakes winning mare, East Asia.

A daughter of the rapidly rising broodmare sire, Swiss Ace, East Asia is one of just two mares offered at the sale in foal to champion sire, Exceed And Excel.

East Asia is one of only two mares in foal to Exceed And Excel at the MM National Broodmare Sale

Importantly, East Asia – who will be offered as Lot 862 under the Glenbeigh Farm banner – hails from a ‘happening’ family with close relation, Solidify winning last week’s Listed Waikato Equine Vet Stakes for 2YOs in New Zealand. Trainer, Graeme Rogerson, is already comparing the colt favourably with the older, multiple Group 1 winning stablemate, Sharp ‘n’ Smart and the youngster is likely to tackle the Group 1 JJ Atkins Stakes in Brisbane next month.

From the Encosta de Lago mare, China Choice, East Asia is a half sister to $1.9 million earner, Mulanchi – a Group winner in Australia and Hong Kong – and also a close relation to Champion Filly Royal Descent.

A 5-time winner in her own right, East Asia defeated stakes winners Tycoon Evie, Centrefire and multiple Group winner, Expat, in the Listed Just Now Stakes and was successfully covered by Exceed And Excel last spring in her first season at stud.

The sire of an incredible 209 stakes winners, Exceed And Excel isn’t showing any signs of slowing down with Mawj winning this month’s 1,000 Guineas at Newmarket and Cylinder capturing the Todman and Silver Slipper before finishing second in the Golden Slipper.

Swiss Ace, meanwhile, is leaving no stone unturned via his daughters and is already the broodmare sire of five Group winners – among them this season’s 3-time Group 1 winner Sharp ‘n’ Smart, last year’s Group 2 Spirit of Boom winner Swiss Exile, Group 2 winning sprinter, Five Elements, and Flemington Group winner, Aitch Two Oh.

Indeed, Swiss Ace – via his daughters – is currently running at 7.5% Group winners to runners, superior to that noted broodmare sires such as Fastnet Rock (2.5%), Savabeel (2.1%), Lonhro (3.5%), High Chaparral (3.6%), More Than Ready (2.6%), Redoute’s Choice (3.6%) and co.

“East Asia is a very impressive mare,” Glenbeigh Farm’s Kerry Stephens enthused. “She was a top class racehorse, has a brilliant pedigree, is by Swiss Ace and is in foal to one of the best sires on the planet.

“East Asia is a beautiful, sweet moving mare – lovely, scopey type who is doing well with her maiden pregnancy. Heaps of quality and just the kindest temperament.”

East Asia will be sold on Wednesday 24 May and for further information phone Kerry Stephens at Glenbeigh Farm on 0427 245 791.
