Paul Willetts Bloodstock is Finding the Star Producers

The Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale starts next Tuesday (May 23 – 25) and with a bumper catalogue filled with premium breeding prospects the task of identifying star producers of the future can be daunting which is why the advice of an expert with a tried and proven database can be a game changer.

Paul Willetts will be at the Gold Coast for the Magic Millions National Sale.

Respected bloodstock agent Paul Willetts has the proven track record for success and has spent a lifetime collating data on the many horses he sees at sales and studs around the world.

“For over 25 years ago, I’ve been recording data and now have over 300,000 horses on the system and at least half of them with conformation points. Sometimes I have seen the dam, grand-dam and great grand-dam,” said Paul Willetts.

“This system has become a major tool in my selection process as we seek to identify those mares that are more likely to pass on desirable traits.”

That selection process has enjoyed outstanding success this year with mares purchased by Willetts producing four individual Group I winners.

Talented three year-old filly Sunshine in Paris emerged from left field to win the Group I ATC Surround Stakes at just her fifth start providing her young sire Invader with his first G1 winner.

Her dam Zenaida was purchased by Paul Willetts Bloodstock for $240,000 at the 2021 Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale and her sale page looked like this.

She was in foal to Dubious and produced a colt that sold for $145,000 as a weanling last year.

The Group I SAJC Australasian Oaks delivered a first G1 win for progressive three year-old filly Affaire A Suivre, who became just the second G2 winner for her sire Astern.

Her dam Laurelling (USA) was bought by Paul Willetts Bloodstock for just $34,000 from the 2019 Inglis Australian Broodmare Sale and her sale page looked like this.

At the time of the sale she was carrying Affaire a Suivre, who sold for $75,000 at Karaka Book 1.

The Group I L’Omarins King’s Plate in South Africa was won by classy Deep Field gelding Al Muthana and was his second G1 win in a fruitful career that has produced eight wins, half of them in Black Type races.

Al Muthana is a two-time G1 winner in South Africa.

His dam El Daana was bought by Paul Willetts Bloodstock for $120,000 at the 2021 Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale as part of the Shadwell Dispersal and her sale page looked like this.

El Daana had a Lonhro yearling filly sell for $625,000 this year for her new owners.

The Group I Sistema Stakes in New Zealand was won at the post by Tokyo Tycoon, but with the return of his positive swab and likely disqualification the G1 win will go to runner-up Ulanova, the first stakes-winner and first G1 winner young I Am Invincible sire Santos.

Ulanova was the highest priced yearling and first SW for her sire Santos.

Her dam The Fairy’s Kiss was bought by Paul Willetts Bloodstock for $100,000 from the 2020 Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale and  her sale page looked like this.

At the sale she was carrying Ulanova, who made $150,000 when sold at Karaka Book 1 to be the highest priced yearling from the first crop of Santos.

All of the mares above were bought for less than $250,000 proving that elite mares can be purchased for a value price if you know what you are looking for.

Just two weeks ago another mare purchased by Paul Willetts Bloodstock produced a new stakes-winner.

Four year-old Pride of Dubai gelding My Khalifa won the Listed SAJC City of Adelaide Stakes crediting his dam O’Reilly’s Charm with her first stakes-winner. She was purchased by Paul Willetts Bloodstock for $44,000 from the 2019 Inglis Australian Broodmare Sale.
