Pedigree Pointers – Karaka 2026

Sponsored Content - by Tara Madgwick - Tuesday December 16

The 2026 NZB National Yearling Sales (January 25-29) offers buyers the cream of the New Zealand crop and in the weeks leading up to the sale we’ll go looking for pedigrees of interest for a myriad of reasons.

The New Zealand breeding industry had cause to break out the champagne on Sunday night with a Kiwi bred first four in the Group I HK International Sprint.

  1. Ka Ying Rising (NZ) (Shamexpress)
  2. Raging Blizzard (NZ) (Per Incanto (USA)
  3. Fast Network (NZ) (Wrote IRE)
  4. Lucky Sweyness (NZ) (Sweynesse)

The sires of all four horses have representation at Karaka next year.

Karaka Book 1 (Shamexpress (4), Per Incanto (22), Wrote (1), Sweynesse (1)

Karaka Book 2 (Shamexpress (3), Per Incanto (8), Wrote (2), Sweynesse (4)

Per Incanto (USA) mares are a growing force on the pedigree page.

The world’s best sprinter Ka Ying Rising is from a daughter of Per Incanto, who has taken the  Street Cry sireline into New Zealand with great success and his daughters are having a growing influence.

Per Incanto has sired the dams of 57 winners so far and seven of those are stakes-winners led by Ka Ying Rising.

Below are all the yearlings in K1 from mares by Per Incanto (USA).
