The Chosen One to stand at The Oaks Stud

Media Release - Tuesday May 23

The Chosen One will join the rejuvenated stallion roster at The Oaks Stud this breeding season.

The Chosen One joins Champion European Two-year-old and Champion Sprinter U S Navy Flag and proven Classic sire Roc de Cambes at the Cambridge farm, with stalwart Darci Brahma retired from stud duties last month.

The Chosen One

“We’re really excited to be standing The Chosen One this season,” The Oaks Stud General Manager Rick Williams said.

“He has all the credentials to be a success at stud, he’s a Group One winner over a mile and multiple group race winner on both sides of the Tasman and he’s very well bred.”

With a Timeform rating of 118 at his peak, The Chosen One is the best performed son of supreme stallion Savabeel to stand at stud.

Under the tutelage of Champion trainers Murray Baker and Andrew Forsman, The Chosen One proved to be a tenacious, versatile, and sound racehorse.

He kicked of his debut season as a three-year-old with a smart maiden win followed by wins in the Listed Zacinto Stakes (1600m), Gr.3 Manawatu Classic (2000m) and Gr.3 Frank Packer Plate (2000m) and a fourth placing in the Gr.1 ATC Derby (2400m).

As a four-year-old he won the Gr.2 Herbert Power Stakes (2400m) and placed in the Gr.1 Sydney Cup (3200m) and Gr.1 Haunui Farm WFA Group One Classic (1600m).

At five he finished fourth in the Gr.1 Melbourne Cup (3200m), just 2.35 lengths behind winner Twilight Payment and placed in the Gr.1 Herbie Dyke Stakes (2000m) and Gr.1 Caulfield Cup (2400m).

However his final season proved to be his most successful, he won the Gr.1 Thorndon Mile (1600m), ran another great race for fifth in the Gr.1 Melbourne Cup (3200m), placed in the Gr.1 Tancred Stakes (2400m), Gr.1 Herbie Dyke Stakes (2000m), Gr.1 Bonecrusher Stakes (2000m), Gr.2 Feehan Stakes (1600m), Gr.2 Herbert Power Stakes (2400m) and finished fourth in the Gr.1 Underwood Stakes (1800m).

He retired with over $2.7 million in stakes and three Champion New Zealand Stayer titles.

Bred by the Dennis Brothers, The Chosen One is out of the multiple race winning and five-times stakes performed Flying Spur mare The Glitzy One, from a family they have cultivated for generations that includes Champion Filly The Jewel and Group One winners La Diosa and The Perfect Pink.

The Chosen One

The Chosen One will stand for $4,000 +GST this season, with breeding rights also available at $10,000 +GST. The breeding rights include two nominations for the next three years and one every year thereafter.
