Change of plans for Lizzie L’Amour

Darryl Sherer - Tuesday October 17

New Zealand Group I winner Lizzie L'Amour will miss Saturday's Caulfield Cup and trainer Murray Baker has chosen the next race for the mare.

Lizzie L'Amour could finish only 10th in Sunday's Cranbourne Cup and Baker, who trains the five-year-old in partnership with Andrew Forsman, said he could not justify paying the $25,000 acceptance fee for the Caulfield Cup.

"We went there Sunday expecting her to run well," Baker said. "Her work had been excellent and she had done well since her unlucky run at Moonee Valley but she didn't get into the race.

"She did get a long way back and it was a day that it was hard to make ground but it's a lot of money to pay up for Saturday under those circumstances."

Lizzie L'Amour has come through Sunday's race in good order and looked bright and well cantering on Tuesday.

Baker has chosen the $300,000 Group III Geelong Cup over 2400m on October 25 as the next race for the daughter of Zabeel.

"There is the Geelong Cup and the Moonee Valley Cup but we thought the Geelong track might suit her better," Baker said.

"Of course she might bump into a couple of the internationals but that's the way it is at this time of year.

"It's frustrating as she's just had no luck in her three starts here but we'll try and turn things around."

Baker's two Caulfield Cup runners Jon Snow and Bonneval have both come out of their runs in Saturday's Group I Ladbrokes Stakes in good order.

"Very happy with both of them," Baker said. "Jon Snow just continues to thrive and the race wasn't run to suit the mare - she'll be better over further at the weekend."
