Sixth Winner for Harry Angel

Mark Smith - Sunday June 4

On Sunday, the Vinery Stud colourbearer Blazing Harry made a winning career debut over 1218m at Geelong to ring up winner number six for Darley Stud’s Harry Angel (IRE).

Ridden by Beau Mertens for Mick Price & Michael Kent (Jnr), Blazing Harry was the first to begin from an inside barrier.

Mertens elected to take a sit and was three pairs back on the rail as the field rounded the home turn. Blazing Harry was travelling like the winner, and when the gap appeared in the straight, the son of Harry Angel (IRE) hit the line strongly to defeat the Lonhro debutant African pioneer by a length with the Shamus Award gelding Military Award three-quarters of a length back in third.

Bred by Blandford Lodge's Graham and Helen-Gaye Bax, Blazing Harry was a $180,000 purchase for Vinery Stud from the Fernrigg Farm draft at the 2022 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale.

lf-brother to Group II HKJC Sprint Cup winner Amazing Star (Darci Brahma), Blazing Harry is the third winner from four to race for the stakes-placed Royal Academy (USA) mare Bright Abyss (USA).

Blazing Harry a $180,000 Inglis Easter yearling

Henry Dwyer Racing shelled out $180,000 for a Street Boss (USA) half-sister to Blazing Harry from the Fernrigg Farm draft at the 2023 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.

After missing to Almanzor (FR) in 2021, Bright Abyss (USA) visited Tarzino last spring.

Currently third on earnings for leading first-season sire, Harry Angel (IRE) joins Justify (USA) with six individual winners and trails only Brave Smash (JPN) with nine winners.
