One to Watch -Eagle Farm

Tara Madgwick - Wednesday July 5

Cox Plate winning sire Adelaide (IRE) is the bargain priced option on the Coolmore roster this spring and he gave us a 'One to Watch' on Wednesday with an ultra impressive winner at Eagle Farm.

Trained by Tony Gollan, three year-old gelding John Rambo was second on debut at Doomben last month, but did enough on that occasion to impress punters, who sent him out today as an odds on favourite.

With Ryan Maloney on board, John Rambo won as a short priced favourite should, looming into contention over the final furlongs to power clear and win the 1200m maiden by four lengths.

John Rambo was a $20,000 Magic Millions Gold Coast March Yearling Sale purchase for Mark Cook/RM Racing from KBL Thoroughbreds and is the first winner from Queen Cora, a placed Rothesay half-sister to the dam of Group I placed Amish Boy from the family of Group II winner Rain Affair.

John Rambo was a $20,000 MM Gold Coast March Yearling purchase.

It’s a real speed female family, so it’s not surprising John Rambo has a good turn of foot and he’s also bred on the magical Galileo x Fastnet Rock nick that has worked so well to produce numerous Group I winners in both hemispheres including the quinella in last weekend’s Group I Pretty Polly Stakes at The Curragh featuring Via Sistina and Stay Alert.

John Rambo looks a promising type for his sire Adelaide, who has had three stakes-winners this season in Australasia in Barossa Rosa, Malt Time and Torrens, while his Australian Group I winning mare Funstar is likely to be making news in Japan next week when her first foal is offered at the JRHA Sale, read about her here..

Priced at just $5,500, Adelaide is a great source of winners and an affordable way for owner breeders to access a G1 winning and G1 producing son of one of the world’s best sires in Galileo.
