Snitzel Colt Passes First Test with Flying Colours

Mark Smith - Thursday August 10

Regularly featured among Breednet’s stars at the trials, Moravia made his eagerly anticipated debut over 900m at Newcastle on Thursday and did not disappoint.

Ridden by Tyler Schiller for Michael Freedman, Moravia settled just off the pace and, when asked for an effort in the straight, put the race to bed in a matter of strides.

The strapping son of Snitzel came clear to defeat the royally-bed Russian Revolution filly, Gimcrack Stakes runner-up, Perfect Proposal, by two lengths with another daughter of Russian Revolution, Impulsivity, a further two and a quarter length back in third.

An $800,00 purchase for Mick Wallace, as agent for Freedman Brothers/ and The Osher Group from the Edinburgh Park Stud draft at the 2022 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale, Moravia is the first foal of the top-class Our Crown Mistress.

Moravia an $800,000 Magic Millions yearling

The daughter of Star Witness won five of 11 starts for Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott, including the Listed VRC Lexus Hybrid Plate and Listed BRC Just Now Quality.

A $200,000 Magic Millions yearling purchase for McKeever Bloodstock, Our Crown Mistress proved an inspired $400,000 buy for Edinburgh Park Stud from the Newgate draft at the 2019 National Broodmare Sale.

Our Crown Mistress off to a flyer

When the Ian Smith run operation pulled up stumps earlier this year, Newgate Bloodstock shelled out $425,000 for Our Crown Mistress, renowned pinhooker Rhys Smith went to $200,000 for her Deep Field weaning filly, and the Hong Kong Jockey Club had the final say at $650,000 for her Zoustar yearling colt.

Our Crown Mistress sold with a November service to Newgate Farm’s Golden Slipper hero Stay Inside.
