Spring Trial Watch – Warwick Farm

Tara Madgwick - Friday August 18

Stakes racing starts in earnest this weekend so the action switches from the trials to raceday, but there was still some intrigue this morning at Warwick Farm with Joe Pride and Newhaven Park combining with an interesting Toronado (IRE) mare, the horse that topped the Inglis Ready 2 Race Sale last year winning a heat and unraced Kingman colt catching the eye.

This week Inglis announced their Inglis Digital Horse of the Year as talented Toronado mare Mariamia, who was transformed by Joe Pride into a Group I winner for Newhaven Park after she was purchased through their online sale for $335,000 in 2022.

The same connections will be hoping for a similar result with six year-old mare Rainbiel, who was a stakes-winner in Victoria when trained by Anthony Chibnall and was having her second trial this morning since being acquired by Newhaven Park and sent to Joe Pride.

Rainbiel has not won a race since October 2021, but she looked sharp and keen to do the job, travelling smoothly in the lead all the way for Tyler Schiller in a strong heat that saw dual Group I winner Converge finish third while exciting I Am Invincible stallion Hawaii Five Oh was given a very quiet time motoring into fifth.

The Waterhouse Bott stable would have been well pleased with Converge and Hawaii Five Oh, who was last seen finishing third in the G1 Stradbroke, while Rainbiel could easily find her best form on this trial.

The Ciaron Maher and David Eustace have a growing presence in Sydney racing and won the last heat of the morning with unraced three year-old Dundeel gelding Nondisclosure.

Having his fourth trial, but first of a new preparation since being gelded, Nondisclosure worked forward to share the lead sitting deep and travelled wide all the way before surging to the line to win by more than a length with ears pricked.

Nondisclosure does look raw and still immature, but he can gallop which is why he topped the Inglis Ready 2 Race Sale for Baystone Farm last year when bought by Ciaron Maher Bloodstock / Group 1 Bloodstock for $750,000. It was a massive pinhook win as he was bought for $210,000 by Baystone from Arrowfield at Magic Millions.

Nondisclosure topped the 2022 Inglis Ready 2 Race Sale at $750,000.

Nondisclosure is from Redoute’s Choice mare Lady Moura, a winning sister to Group III winner and ill-fated sire Beneteau from the family of Champion Filly Alinghi.

Champion UK based sire Kingman has had good success in Australia most notably with Group I winning colt King Colorado, who has accepted for the Group I Winx Stakes on Saturday and another of his unraced three year-old colts caught our eye when winning his 1200m heat for the Richard and Will Freedman stable.

Koning was having his second trial and had blinkers on for this one. Allowed to settle early by Jason Collett, he let down really, working between runners and doing his best work on the line  to score by a neck.

A $525,000 Magic Millions purchase from the Bhima Thoroughbreds draft for Mick Wallace As Agent For Freedman Brothers, Koning is bred to excel over a mile an upwards and has a full stakes-placed brother Narnanco, who was won up to 2000m.

Koning was a $525,000 Magic Millions purchase.

He is from well-bred Galileo mare Patsy Boyne, a three-quarter sister to champion racehorse and Group I sire High Chaparral and the family is packed with Black Type performers and also features Group I French Oaks winner Fancy Blue and Group II MVRC Moonee Valley Cup winner Hunting Horn (IRE).
