Several popular Australian based sires that had new stakes-winners last weekend are represented in the 2023 NZB Ready to Run Sale, so we’ve gone through their entries looking for ‘nicks that click’.
A proven Group I sire, All Too Hard gave Te Akau a new stakes-winner when Viva Vienna won the Listed Canterbury Belle Stakes at Riccarton, while in Australia his $6million earner Alligator Blood beat all bar Mr Brightside in the Group I VRC Makybe Diva Stakes.
All Too Hard has five entries for the sale including Lot 44 from Riversley Park, a colt from More Than Ready (USA) mare Forbidden Rose, who comes from the family of dual Group I winner Lotteria and Singapore Horse of the Year The Inferno.
Vinery Stud based All Too Hard has had plenty of winners bred on this cross as you would expect given More Than Ready (USA) was a regular shuttler to Vinery for many years. The nick has produced 46 winners from 66 runners highlighted by three stakes-winners including multiple Group I winners Wellington and Forbidden Love, who sold for $4.1million to Yulong as a broodmare prospect this year.
Starspangledbanner posted a new Group winner at Flemington where his brilliant sprinter Star Patrol won the Group II VRC Bobbie Lewis giving connections inspiration to aim up at the Group I VRC Champions Sprint during the Melbourne Cup Carnival.
Starspangledbanner has two entries for the sale including Lot 97 from Cheltenham Stables, a colt from winning High Chaparral (IRE) mare Latenight Princess, who comes from the family of outstanding Group II Silver Slipper Stakes winner Amelia’s Dream.
This colt is bred on a super successful nick between Starspangledbanner and High Chaparral that has produced 17 winners from 19 runners, so nearly 90% winners to runners. Those winners include three stakes-winners headed by Group I winners California Spangle and The Wow Signal, so that’s nearly 16% SW to runner!
With his oldest progeny just turned three, Trapeze Artist sired his first stakes-winner when talented colt Griff put himself in the Caulfield Guineas picture winning the Listed VRC Exford Plate at Flemington.
Trapeze Artist has two entries for the sale including Lot 227 from Leanach Lodge, a colt that had a good pedigree update during the Brisbane Winter Carnival as he is now a three-quarter brother to Group III Ken Russell Memorial Classic winner Russian Alliance, who is by another young Snitzel stallion in Russian Revolution.
He is the third foal of well related import Sea Dweller (GB), who is by outstanding broodmare sire High Chaparral, whose daughters have done well with Trapeze Artist’s sire Snitzel to produce Group winning and Group I placed colts Best of Bordeaux and Williamsburg.
Another Snitzel son Shamus Award has a rising star three year-old filly in New Zealand in Group III Gold Trail Stakes winner Quintessa, who is also bred from a daughter of High Chaparral.
