First Wins for Siblings to Stars

Tara Madgwick - Thursday October 5

The Gosford meeting on Thursday saw a couple of blueblood colts strike early in the day with wins for siblings to Golden Slipper winner She Will Reign and Champion 3YO Sprinting Colt Home Affairs.

He might be the half-brother to one of the hottest young sires in the country in Home Affairs, but three year-old Dundeel colt Marenaro will need to keep progressing onwards and upwards from his impressive maiden win if he wishes to remain a colt.

Prepared by Chris Waller, Marenaro has needed time and distance to show his potential and stepped up in trip for a 1900m maiden at his fifth start, he scored a thoroughly dominant two and a half length win for Jason Collett as a short priced favourite.

uo;He was a bit colty in the yard and behind the gates, so it’s lucky there were no fillies around,” said Collett.

“He raced a bit keen last start, so we took the blinkers off and he settled much better.”

Marenaro was a favourite with the Torryburn Stud team as a yearling.

A $540,000 Inglis Easter purchase from the Torryburn Stud draft for Phil Cataldo Bloodstock, Marenaro runs for an ownership group including Tony Muollo and Lib Petagna and is the third winner from star producer Miss Interiors, whose other two winners are dual Group I winner Home Affairs and Group I placed stakes-winner Aysar.

Miss Interiors is a half-sister to another Group I winning sire in Russian Revolution, so Marenaro undoubtedly has a stallion’s pedigree if he can translate potential to Black Type as the season unfolds.

Miss Interiors has a two year-old filly by Dundeel called Domain that has been retained and sent to John O’Shea to train and has a yearling colt by I Am Invincible that is a full brother to Home Affairs, who covered 203 mares in his first season at Coolmore last spring at a fee of $110,000!

Miss Interiors has no foal this spring after missing last year.

In the first race on the card, Nathan Doyle was in the winner’s circle with Snitzel colt Reigning King, who scored by a length over 1100m at his third start.

A $400,000 Inglis Easter purchase from Evergreen Stud for Shane Nichols Racing / Horse Ventures, Reigning King had one start in Victoria last preparation for Shane Nichols before joining the Nathan Doyle stable.

$400,000 Inglis Easter yearling, Reigning King is the last foal from Courgette.

He is a half-brother to dual Group I winner and Champion 2YO Filyl She Will Reign and Group II ATC Silver Slipper Stakes winner Time to Reign being the sixth winner from seven foals to race from Courgette, who was bought for $2.1million at the 2018 Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale by E Thoroughbreds.

Courgette died in 2021 and Reigning King is her final foal.
