Triple Group Winner Seradess Set for MM Virtual Sale

Media Release - Tuesday October 17

Outstanding sprinting mare Seradess will go under the hammer next week at a stand-alone Magic Millions Virtual Sale as an elite breeding prospect.

A triple Group winner and earner of over half a million dollars, Seradess made quite an impact on the racetrack from just 19 starts.

The Mark and Levi Kavanagh trained sprinter was a stakes winning juvenile who developed into one of the finest sprinters of her generation as a three-year-old with wins in the Group Two Tobin Bronze Stakes, Group Three Champagne Stakes and Group Three Proud Miss Stakes.

Earlier this year she was fifth in both the Group One Robert Sangster Stakes and Group One The Goodwood - beaten just 2.5 lengths and 1.7 lengths respectively.

"She showed right from her first start she was a high quality filly," her yearling buyer and co-trainer Mark Kavanagh said. "Her win in the Cinderella Stakes, at just her second start, was outstanding."

"As a three-year-old she trained on to be a Group Three winner at Moonee Valley before a Group Two and Group Three in Adelaide. She was also close up in a couple of Group One races - she was a high class racehorse."

Kavanagh took a shine to Seradess at the 2020 Adelaide Yearling Sale and he went to $50,000 to secure her from the Mill Park Stud draft.

"Seradess was a classy yearling, a must buy in Adelaide, and she gave her connections many thrills across her racing career."

"She will let down to be a magnificent broodmare and I can't wait to see her progeny in the future," Kavanagh added.

As well as being an outstanding performer in her own right, Seradess has an impressive pedigree to match.

She is a daughter of Medaglia d'Oro's Golden Rose winning son Astern and is from the triple stakes performer Obsidian Dragon.

That makes Seradess a half sister to high quality Grahame Begg trained mare Rose Quartz. She has run second at her past three starts - two at Group Three level.

On Saturday Rose Quartz ran a closing second in the Northwood Plume Stakes at Caulfield. The four time winner looks destined for more highly regarded feature races this spring and into the future.

"Seradess was a high class galloper across her first class career," Magic Millions Managing Director Barry Bowditch said. "Hers is also a pedigree on the move with the likes of Rose Quartz featuring across the Spring Carnival."

"We are thrilled that Mark and Levi Kavanagh and the connections of Seradess have entrusted us to offer their star mare in the same format that Sheeza Belter was recently sold."

"Seradess would be a high class addition to any broodmare band in the world," Bowditch added.

Like Sheeza Belter, Seradess will be offered virtually from the Gold Coast Sales Complex on Thursday, October 26 at 3pm (Qld time). She will be offered by auctioneer Clint Donovan.

Any interested parties who would like to inspect Seradess should contact Magic Millions Bloodstock Manager Dane Robinson on 0488 005 572.
