The Next Good Filly for Dane Shadow?

Tara Madgwick - Wednesday November 1
When Kitchwin Hills stalwart Dane Shadow gets a good filly she can be seriously good, so the win of well related Lady Dane at Canterbury on Wednesday stamped her as a horse well worth following.

A lightly raced four year-old from the Joe Pride stable, Lady Dane was given two quiet trials leading into this Benchmark 72 event over 1100 metres and showed real promise with a stylish win.

Lady Dane as a foal at Bella Lodge in 2013Having her first start since April, Lady Dane covered some ground during the run but forged to the front after turning for home and was strong to the line for Tim Clark to win by half a length, her second win from just six starts.

Retained to race by her breeders, who include Bella Lodge's Charlotte Manuel, Lady Dane is a three-quarter sister to Group I placed stakes-winner Ladys Angel, who won over $400,000 in prizemoney.

"I trained Ladys Angel and this mare is a lot like her as it's also taken her a while to come into her own," said Joe Pride.

"She spelled and pre-trained with Charlotte, so came to me in great condition. I think she can be Saturday class at the least and probably a bit better than that."

She is the third winner for Lady Sublime, a half-sister to the dam of stakes-winner Oxford Poet and grand-daughter of former sizzling speedster Mother Duck

Lady Sublime has a yearling filly by Star Witness and has foaled this spring producing a filly by another of the Kitchwin Hills sires in Time for War, who sadly died after just two seasons at stud.

Lady Sublime is set to continue her run with Kitchwin Hills sires and will be covered by Sboog.
