Hellbent Surges to Lead

Tara Madgwick - Tuesday November 21

The third season sires division has been a competitive one this year with Russian Revolution and Hellbent trading blows this spring at the top of the list, but a first Group I win for quality mare Magic Time in the MRC Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes has tipped the scales in favour of Yarraman Park’s son of I Am Invincible.

Hellbent

Hellbent now leads the division by earnings with 35 winners of $2.6million to his credit headed by Magic Time and Group III winner Benedetta with his results to date all achieved from his first two crops of foals conceived at a fee of $27,500.

In his next three seasons, Hellbent remained popular at a reduced fee of $22,000, so has good numbers for the sales this year with 21 entries for Magic Millions and 16 for Inglis Classic.

Hellbent is completing a full book at Yarraman this spring at the increased fee of $38,500.

Russian Revolution

Second on the list is Newgate based Russian Revolution, who attracted a fee increase coming into this spring up to $88,000 from $71,500, but he’s been relatively quiet in terms of producing stakes horses this season to date with just the one stakes-winner in Libertad. He also has a significantly smaller crop of two year-olds coming through from his third season at stud when his fee dipped to $44,000.

His yearlings are also off a $44,000 fee and he has 27 for Magic Millions and 19 for Inglis Classic.

Supido

Widden Stud’s Supido has also sired 16 winners of over $2million with his star performer the G1 placed Group winning sprinter Buenos Noches.

Supido is competing off a much lower base than the first two stallions with his initial fee set at $11,000 before dropping to $9,900 and then three years at $8,800 before coming back up this year to $19,800. He has around 60 yearlings, but not many at the sales with just two for Inglis Classic and none for Magic Millions.

Churchill (IRE)

Coolmore’s Churchill (IRE) rounds out the top four and like Hellbent, he got a first Australian G1 winner this spring when Attrition won the MRC Toorak Handicap.

His current yearlings were conceived off a fee of $19,250 and he has nine for Magic Millions and six for Inglis Classic.
