Barbie’s Sister Wins Listed Calaway Gal

Tara Madgwick - Saturday December 9

What do you call the full sister to $1.5million earner Outback Barbie? Barbie’s Sister of course and she’s now a stakes-winner too after taking out the $200,000 Listed BRC Calaway Gal Stakes (1000m) at Eagle Farm on Saturday.

Trained by Tony Gollan as was Outback Barbie, Barbie’s Sister was a close second on debut at the Sunshine Coast last month and improved sharply to win by a length and a half for James Orman.

Gollan plans to test Barbie's Sister over 1200m before the Magic Millions, and perhaps ride her with cover rather than leading as she did today.

"She is very similar to her sister, Outback Barbie, she just kept getting better and better in the summer towards Magic Millions (where Outback Barbie ran third in Sunlight's 2018 Magic Millions)," Gollan said.

"She is still not the finished product yet and we still have work to do with her.

"We have got to make more improvement, at this point in time I am still just a touch nervous about her at 1200m."

Barbie's Sister was a $300,000 MM purchase from Eureka Stud.

A $300,000 Magic Millions purchase from the Eureka Stud draft for Harvey Black, Spirit of Boom filly Barbie’s Sister is a full sister to multiple stakes-winning $1.5million earner Outback Barbie and is the sixth foal of stakes-winner Pure Perfection, who has left another two metro winners from her three foals to race so far.

Pure Perfection has no yearling for the sales next year, but did produce a colt by Spirit of Boom this spring.

Barbie’s Sister is the 24th stakes-winner for Spirit of Boom, who made it a quick stakes double at Eagle Farm when All That Pizzazz won the Listed BRC Bribie Handicap over 1000m.

Spirit of Boom

Spirit of Boom has 37 entries for the 2024 Magic Millions.
