One to Watch – Canberra

Tara Madgwick - Friday December 29

A two year-old by Capitalist highlighted in a recent Breednet Juvenile Trial Watch story was well fancied to win the $50,000 Aquis Park Clan O’Sullivan (1000m) at Canberra on Friday and delivered a winning debut.

Trained by Peter and Paul Snowden, King of Roseau was well educated following three trials and jumped quickly to take the lead on the fence and despite racing greenly in the straight when challenged by the Waterhouse Bott runner Madrina, he stuck to his guns to win by three-quarters of a length.

“He’s a nice horse and we do like him, but he has a lot to learn,” said Peter Snowden, who was on track for the win.

“He’s got patient owners and I think he can reach a good level when he learns to relax a bit more.”

King of Roseau was a $95,000 Magic Millions purchase.

King of Roseau is Magic Millions eligible, although is also now eligible for a $100,000 bonus payment for any juvenile that can win the Clan O’Sullivan, the $50,000 Black Opal Preview 1000m (February 23) and finally the Group III Black Opal Stakes 1200m (March 10)\.

Snowden was non-committal about future plans for King of Roseau and will let the dust settle from his debut success.

A $95,000 Magic Millions purchase for Pulse Racing Thoroughbreds/Pinhook Bloodstock International from the Ashleigh Thoroughbreds draft, King of Roseau is the second foal of Dominica, a Choisir daughter of Group I winner Danni Martine. His breeder Senga Bissett, who bred his mother and his grand-mother has retained a small share.

She can certainly produce a good Capitalist having also bred and sold his first Group I winner Captivant!

Capitalist is poised to make a big impact at Magic Millions where he is  the leading sire by representation with 55 entries.
