Finding Some Jewels in Book Two

Mark Smith - Monday January 15

The graduates of Book 2 of the Magic Millions Yearling Sale continue to perform year after year and has another pinup in Abounding, who won the feature $3,000,000 Magic Millions 3yo Guineas. The daughter of Rich Enuff was a $75,000 buy for First Light Racing/Robert Heathcote Racing from the Telemon Thoroughbreds draft in 2022 and has banked over $2,000,000.

So, you are more likely to hear ‘a real trainer’s horse’, or ‘a real running horse’, more than a roll call of famous relatives as Book 2 gets underway on Monday.

Some first-season sires that have hit the ground running are well represented in Book 2.. The early results have been positive for Ole Kirk, Zousain, Tassort, Alabama Express, Too Darn Hot, Brutal, Cosmic Force, Pierata, and Exceedance.

The following look worthy of inspection.

Lot 1273 B C Cosmic Force x Misshiraz by Secret Savings – Consignor: Figtree Thoroughbreds.

Cosmic Force has made an exciting start and this half-brother to the 6-time winner and Gr III Missile Stakes third Deepour and 4-time winner Koonunga, looks like he could run through a brick wall.

Lot 1277 Ch C Encryption x Moojeh by More Than Ready – Consignor: Eureka Stud

A half-brother to three winners led by stakes-placed Maqsad (Not a Single Doubt).

Dam is a half-sister to Grand Armee from a family that regularly throws a champion, the latest being Anamoe.

Lot 1285 B C Too Darn Hot GB) x My Little Flicka by California Dane – Consignor: Noble Bend Farm

Third foal of a very talented racemare, a 9-time winner and a granddaughter of Listed winner and Gr II STC Magic Night Stakes was runner-up Empower (Marauding).

Dam’s first foal (Mattei) has won two of five starts for Mitch Freedman and her second foal Purosangue, is an unraced 2yo gelding by Tassort.

Lot 1338 Ch C Anders x Rebel Cry by Street Cry – Consignor: Eureka Stud

The first crop of Anders has been well received and he is among the leaders on the Breednet table for sire profitability.

This colt is the second foal of Rebel Cry whose short career on the track resulted in two wins and a second from three starts, all at Newcastle, where she broke her maiden by four and a half lengths.

Her first foal Rebellious Spirit (Spirit Of Boom) was a $100,000 purchase for Gollan Racing / John Foote Bloodstock (FBAA) last year and won a barrier trial at Eagle Farm in her first public outing.

Lot 1392 B F Tassort x Siyaadeh by Written Tycoon – Consignor: Emirates Park.

The first foal of the dam who only started three times and was a two lengths winner at Gawler.

A half-sister to the Listed Bob Charlie Stakes winner Adelong, Siyaadeh is out of a half-sister to Snowland, Snippetson and Portillo, the dam of Ghisoni.

Lot 1406 Bl or Br C North Pacific x Splash Headline by Manhattan Rain – Consignor Noble Bend Farm.

North Pacific just needed to stamp them in his image to prove popular and he has done that with this colt.

Splash Headline is a daughter of Simply Put Charge Forward, who was runner-up in the Gr III Mannerism Stakes after a decision over Mid Summer Music at Caulfield.

Lot 1456 Br C Brutal x Waltz by Hinchinbrook – Consignor: Riversdale.

Brutal received a huge boost when Lead Me On won Saturday’s $500,000 Magic Millions The Debut Colts and Geldings (1000m) at the Gold Coast.

This colt is the first foal of a Gold Coast-winning daughter of the stakes-winning Tale of The Cat (USA) mare Dancer’s Tale.

Lot 1458 B C Shalaa (IRE) x Wendover by High Chaparral – Consignor: Riversdale.

Shalaa (IRE) has a Magic Millions 2yo Classic winner on the CV, and this colt is out of an unraced half-sister to Gr 1 WS Cox Plate winner Pinker Pinker.
