Undefeated Tassie Star is out of a $250 Mare

The locals rallied around the unbeaten Wordsmith filly Geegees Mistruth in Sunday's Listed Kevin Sharkie Elwick Stakes at Hobart, and there was not a moment of worry.

Taken to the front by Anthony Darmanin, Geegees Mistruth had the field off the bit and chasing when rounding the home turn.

Under a kind ride, the Stuart Gandy-trained filly defeated the impressive Mornington winner Viola Vivace (Nicconi) by one and a half lengths, with Zoete's Rock (Impending) one and three-quarter lengths back in third.

A facile winner of her first two starts at Launceston and Hobart, Geegees Mistruth showed her versatility, according to Anthony Darmanin.

"All three starts have been different," Darmanin said. "At her first start, she got back and attacked the line; the second, she sat just off the pace, and today, she jumped straight on the bunny, and I could not hold her any slower.

"Once I asked her to quicken, she lengthened and won well.

"She did everything right but still has some little quirks. She is such a big filly, and the ability is there, so if she keeps improving, she will win a nice race."

Stuart Gandy believes the best is yet to come for the daughter of Wordsmith.

"She is a beautiful filly, does a bit wrong, and is not really a 2-year-old, but she keeps turning up," Gandy said.

"I galloped her during the week with a very good one in the stable, so we were pretty confident.

"The further she goes and older she gets, the better.

"She will run in the Gold Sovereign all being well."

A homebred for Paul and Elizabeth Geard, Geegees Mistruth is the third winner from as many foals for the Jetball mare Miss Mana, purchased for a mere $250 at the 2013 Inglis Great Southern Bloodstock Sale.

 Miss Mana has a yearling sister to Geegees Mistruth.

Geegees Mistruth is the eighth stakes-winner for the Geard family's overachieving Testa Rossa stallion Wordsmith.

All bar the 2022 TRC Tasmanian Derby hero The Nephew carry the Gee Gee monicker.

Geegees Mistruth is the fourth winner of the Elwick Stakes for Wordsmith after Gee Gees Top Notch (2015), Gee Gee Double Dee (2016), and Gee Gee Josie (2020).

Geegees Mistruth was one of 21 yearlings from Wordsmith's twelfth crop.
