Hips Don’t Lie Family Running Hot in Ring and on Track

Tara Madgwick - Sunday April 7

Some families have a real commercial appeal that represents gold in the sale ring and Black Type on the track and we saw one of them in play at Inglis Easter on Sunday when four members of the Procure - Hips Don’t Lie family were offered for sale including a Snitzel filly from the mare herself that sold for $1.1million.

Consigned by Coolmore, the half-sister to Group III winner Ennis Hill (dam of Group II winner Learning to Fly) and stakes-winners Lake Geneva and Acrobat was snapped up by Kia Ora/ TFI for $1.1million keeping up the remarkable strike rate in the sale ring for her dam Hips Don’t Lie, who has produced four previous yearlings to sell at this sale for $1million or more.

A brilliant Group II winning juvenile, Hips Don’t Lie has had a long and successful career at stud and produced a filly by Home Affairs last spring at age 18.

$950,000 Zoustar filly from Invictus Salute

Next out was Sledmere Stud’s Zoustar filly from stakes-winner Invictus Salute, who comes from a different branch of this family that has produced Group II winning $1.8million earning sprinter Splintex.

She made $950,000 when bought by Andrew Williams Bloodstock providing a great result for Sledmere Stud given she is the first living foal of the mare, who has a filly by Home Affairs to follow and is in foal to I Am Invincible.

Yarraman Park offered Lot 164, an Exceed and Excel filly from More Cheers (NZ) that is from a different branch again of this famous family featuring Group I VRC Coolmore Stud Stakes winner Ozzmosis.

She was passed in shy of her $160,000 reserve as was Lot 181 offered by The Chase.

He is the half-brother by Wootton Bassett (GB) to Ozzmosis and has a reserve of $300,000.

Two more yearlings from this family will be offered on Monday.

Lot 389 from Widden Stud, a Trapeze Artist filly from White Coolies.

Lot 405 from Willow Park Stud, a Snitzel gelding from Acqume.
