There were 11 heats won by juveniles at Hawkesbury on Monday morning with a big wave of youngsters looking to get racing before the end of the season and there were some interesting winners by Trapeze Artist and All Too Hard, plus an intriguing one for Godolphin.
One of the most expensive colts by Trapeze Artist at Magic Millions in 2023, the Bjorn Baker trained Lone Artist showed nice improvement from his first trial last month leading all the way to win his 1000m heat by the best part of a length.
A $400,000 MM purchase for Clarke Bloodstock Pty Ltd from the Widden Stud draft, Lone Artist is a half-brother to stakes-placed Philosopher from an unraced half-sister to stakes-winners Gai’s Choice (grand-dam of Group IIII winner Facile), Atmospherical and Peron (dam of Group III winner Juan Diva).
Also from the Bjorn Baker stable, All Too Hard filly Regimental Colours is now two for two at the trials with another all the way win for Rachel King.
Passed in at Magic Millions shy of her $200,000 reserve, Regimental Colours runs for her breeder Cressfield and would have some sentimental value as she is the last foal from dual Group I winning sprinter Regimental Gal, the Champion 3YO Filly in 2003/2004.
Regimental Gal spent her entire stud career at Cressfield and has produced seven winners from nine foals to race headed by Group III winner Lilliburlero and stakes-placed Vimy, who made $1.5million as a yearling at Inglis Easter for Cressfield when bought by Godolphin.
Interesting heat winner for Godolphin was Euro bred, but foaled in Australia, filly Amusing, a half-sister to French Group winner Egot by Epsom Derby winner Masar. She was having her third trial and second this prep and hit the line well under a hold to score a narrow win.
Amusing appears to be the only named offspring in Australia of Godolphin’s homebred Derby winning colt Masar, who stands at a fee of £10,000 at their Dalham Hall base in the UK. With his oldest progeny just three year-olds, Masar has sired 21 winners, but yet to produce a stakes-winner.
Amusing is from Australian bred Group III placed Street Cry (IRE) mare Entertains, a three-quarter sister-in-blood to dual Group I winner Trekking, that started her stud career in Europe. Now in Australia, Entertains has a yearling filly by Ghaiyyath (IRE) and a weanling filly by Palace Pier (GB).
Entertains is from Champion 3YO Filly Serenade Rose and this family has had a flurry of stakes success of late with two new stakes-winners on the page in Belardi, a 2YO stakes-winner in New Zealand last Saturday and his half-sister Moonlight Music, who was second in last Saturday’s Group I BRC Queensland Derby.
Additional winners were: Hyperbolic (NZ) (Proisir), Glassout (Headwater), Miss Piera (Pierata), Houdini Spirit (Harry Angel (IRE), Comic Culture (Capitalist), Subdue (Unite and Conquer), Kenmare Bay (New Bay) and Ride the River (Headwater).
